Cuchulainn, the Impure represents the zodiac Scorpio. He represents the element of Poison. Hidden inside his body, he has a tail that inflicts Poison. Cuchulainn is an optional Esper found in Garamsythe Waterway under Rabanastre. Nobody knows why he’s there. Some say it is because he is attracted to the sewage that runs beneath the city. Perhaps, it fuels his strength as the esper that represents the element of Poison. He is also known as the Vrishchika Ascendant.
When encountering Cuchulainn, the Impure, he is accompanied by Foobars. However, killing the Foobars eventually prevent them from spawning which allows you to focus on the Esper himself. Cuchulainn, the Impure casts a rotation of Bio, Malaise, and Impure which deals ailment damage over time. Another mechanic of the battle is that your HP will slowly deplete as the battle continues. He also uses Invert which can switch the value between MP and HP. This may be disadvantageous for strong characters but have low MP. But this may be advantageous also by healing your allies the moment their MP and HP switch to replenish their missing MP.
Battle Strategy
Finding Cuchulainn
Players must complete the Wraith and White Mousse Hunts to get the control of the sluice gates in Garamsythe Waterway. From the first central area, head towards the save crystal. The player should see four sluice gate switches: 3rd, 4th, 10th, and 11th area. To access Cuchulainn, follow the steps below:
- Activate Sluice Gates’ #3 and #10 from the Central Waterway Control.
- Move #10 Channel into #3 Cloaca Spur. At the south end, activate #1 South Waterway Control switch.
- Deactivate Sluice Gates #3 and #10 then activate the 4th and the 11th Sluice Gate.
- Go to the 11th Channel into the No. 4 Cloaca Spur. Nearing the south end, activate the North Waterway Control switch #1.
- Return to the Central Waterway Control. Turn off the 11th switch before turning on the #3 panel.
After accomplishing all this, only sluice gates #3 and #4 remain open. Also, the player can access the middle of #1 Cloaca. There, you can find Cuchulainn, the Impure waiting for you. Before fighting, save and then engage.
Strategy
Before engaging Cuchulainn, the Impure, buff your allies with the necessary buffs (i.e. Shell, Protect, Haste, Regen, and etc.). Assign one of your characters play support for the team as to keep a constant set of buffs. Another spell to cast on your allies is Bubble as it reduces status ailment duration.
However, the Bubble Belt doesn’t give the same effects as the spell Bubble. Also, if the party still struggles with Cure and Curaja, set the gambit to Arise instead to keep all party members alive. For incoming status ailments, equip the gear that has an anti-property against them. Make sure also to bring down the Foobars either via Quickening Concurrence or direct attack. If Cuchulainn, the Impure casts Disablega, use the Black Belt or Esuna to remove the Disable ailment.
