Monster Guide

1) Rogue Tomato Strategy

A) Mission Information

  • Mission Name – Red & Rotten in the Desert
  • Location – Dalmasca Estersand

B) Rogue Tomato Monster Information

Level HP MP Weakness LP
2 134 50 Water 3
Abilities Steal Reward
Flame Breath (Single-target, 20 damage), and Ram Pebble, Fire Stone, and Potion 300 Gil, Potion × 2, and Teleport Stone

C) Battle Strategy

A somewhat rookie mark. After striking about two times, Rogue Tomato will attempt to jump down to the lower platform. As you follow it, you will eventually come across other enemies. Be sure to take them out while avoiding the pack of Wolves before you continue to combat the Rogue Tomato.

2) Thextera Strategy

A) Mission Information

  • Mission Name – Wolf in the Waster
  • Location – Dalmasca Westersand (Galtea Downs)

B) Thextera Monster Information

Level HP MP Weakness LP
6 380 45 Wind 2
Abilities Steal Reward
Saber, and Cry for Help Pebble, Potion, and Wolf Pelt 500 Gil, Headguard, and Teleport Stone

C) Battle Strategy

Nullify its Cry for Help with Silence to prevent any interference.

A battle that can be finished once Penelo joins the party. In case Penelo has left the party, head back to Rabanastre to recruit her before you proceed with the hunt. Clear the area of Wolves before finishing off Thextera.

3) Flowering Cactoid Strategy

A) Mission Information

  • Mission Name – Dalmasca’s Desert Bloom
  • Location – Dalmasca Estersand (Yardang Labyrinth)

B) Flowering Cactoid Monster Information

Level HP MP Weakness LP
4 755 525 Wind 2
Abilities Steal Reward
Ram, and 1000 Needles Cactus Fruit, Earth Stone, and Potion 500 Gil, and Potion × 10

C) Battle Strategy

Keep an eye on your party’s HP as its signature attack, 1000 Needles, deals devastating damage and can spell doom to a dying party. As a result, it is dangerous to take on this mark alone. Apart from that, Flowering Cactoid is capable of running away during the battle.

As its HP drops, its evasion rises. Cast Magick to guarantee that the damage will land.

4) Wraith Strategy

A) Mission Information

  • Mission Name – Waterway Haunting
  • Location – Garamsythe Waterway

B) Wraith Monster Information

Level HP MP Weakness LP
9 5, 146 600 Lightning 5
Abilities Steal Reward
Blizzard, Doom, Sleep, and Blind Glass Jewel, Dark Magicite, and High Potion 500 Gil, Ether, and Gauntlets

C) Battle Strategy

Proves to be a more challenging match than the above-mentioned marks. Wraith will cast Doom at the start of the battle. This Magick attempts to strike all party members. So long as you can prevent everyone’s timer from running out, it is safe to sacrifice consumable Phoenix Downs.

Wraith is vulnerable to Lightning spells like Thunder. To prevent it from causing further havoc, cast Disable to prevent most of its abilities from connecting. This will force it to use Doom and normal attacks.

5) Nidhogg Strategy

A) Mission Information

  • Mission Name – Marauder in the Mines
  • Location – Lhusu Mines (Transitway 1)

B) Nidhogg Monster Information

Level HP MP Weakness LP
10 6,079 120 Fire 5
Abilities Steal Reward
Tail Spear (inflicts Slow), Gnaw, and Saber Antidote, Tanned Hide, and Aries Gem 600 Gil, Rose Corsage, and Balaclava

C) Battle Strategy

Before you start the Hunt, be sure to stock up on some Potions and Antidotes. Due to its exceptional attack power, members who do not equip decent gear will suffer about a hundred points of damage. It is alarming once its damage output begins to stack, which worsens with the poison effect.

Cast Blind and Slow to incapacitate this Mark. Once its HP falls to critical levels, it will use Tail Spear, which deals triple its normal attacks’ damage. HP conservation is essential to survive this Mark. Pierce its carapace with Fire Magick to deal severe damage.

6) Chickatrice and Cluckatrice Strategy

A) Mission Information

  • Mission Name – Little Love on the Big Plains
  • Location – Giza Grassland Dry Season *Kill all monsters in the area.

B) Cluckatrice Monster Information

Level HP MP Weakness LP
15 7, 509 563 Earth 6
Abilities Steal Reward
Poke, Stone Gaze, Mucus, and Purify Small Feather, Wind Stone, and Tauros Gem 1,000 Gil, Amber Armlet, and Rainbow Egg

C) Chickatrice Monster Information

Level HP MP Weakness LP
13 3,067 338 Earth 1
Abilities Steal Reward
Poke Portion, Small Feather, and Large Feather

D) Battle Strategy

When the battle starts, Cluckatrice will be accompanied by three Chickatrice. Take out the Chickatrice to prevent their Pokes from landing. Counter its Stone Gaze Technik with Stona or Gold Needle. Cast Blind and Disable on the Chickatrice to heavily cripple them. Finish them off before you continue to whittle down Cluckatrice.

7) Rocktoise Strategy

A) Mission Information

  • Mission Name – The Cry of Its Power
  • Location – Lhusu Mines (Site 2) * Report the Hunt to Pilika to unlock an additional event.

B) Rocktoise Monster Information

Level HP MP Weakness LP
16 17,548 999 Wind 8
Abilities Steal Reward
Fire, Blizzard, Flash, Thunder, Dark, Purify, Focus, Stone Stomp, and Sonic Spin Potion, Turtle Shell, and Aged Turtle shell 1,200 Gil, Survival Vest, and High Potion

C) Battle Strategy

Specializing in long-range attacks, this Elite Mark can pummel the party if they rely on Cure alone. Thus be sure to have Cura ready and return fire by shooting with bows. Employ a hit-and-run strategy as you go. This tactic is effective, as it can prevent concentrated area-of-effect attacks from raining down on the party.

Cast Slow and Blind to hamper the Rocktoise’s abilities. Follow up with Aero to pierce it with fierce damage. Another alternative is to lure it to the entrance and strike with long-range weapons. This will force it to use Magick, preventing it from taking advantage of its physical attacks.
