Hero Item Builds

D’Arcy primarily wants two resources from his items: ability power and cooldown reduction. His abilities allow him to deal immense amounts of damage to both single targets and groups. As such, D’Arcy needs to have his abilities available at all times.

Core Items

These items are necessary in order to play D’Arcy optimally. Only diverge from a core item if you are a very experienced player or have a very good reason for doing so.

Arena of Valor Orb of the Magi
Orb of the Magi
Orb of the Magi provides both significant ability power and a nice 10% CDR to power D’Arcy through fights. Though the lane sustain from Phoenix Tear is helpful, you’ll want to build straight to Orb of the Magi to immediately get the increased AP and CDR. The extra health that Orb provides is a welcome bonus to prevent D’Arcy from getting burst down too quickly.
Arena of Valor Boomstick
Boomstick

Boomstick provides D’Arcy with a lot of ability power, and its passive adds a good chunk of damage as well. However, it doesn’t provide sustain or CDR, so it’s best to purchase Boomstick to increase your pushing and team fight power.
Arena of Valor Hecate's Diadem
Hecate’s Diadem
Hecate’s Diadem is nearly mandatory for mages, as it almost always provides more ability power than any other item, including Holy of Holies. The only time you’d go without Hecate’s as a mage is if you’re choosing between it and Holy of Holies and you desperately need the HP from the latter.

Optional Items

Arena of Valor Staff of Nuul
Staff of Nuul
10% CDR is a good excuse to take Staff of Nuul, even if the opposing team isn’t stacking much magic defense. Given that D’Arcy’s magic damage scales up nicely as the game progresses, getting this item does wonders for him.
Arena of Valor Rhea's Blessing
Rhea’s Blessing
Rhea’s Blessing is a good option if you want to rely on taking out enemies with your Dimensional Walk combo. D’Arcy’s Dimensional Cube will let you heal a lot, provided you tag enemies with it first.
Arena of Valor Frosty's Revenge
Frosty’s Revenge
Similar to Boomstick, Frosty’s Revenge is most useful when throwing out Dimensional Cube and Dimensional Portal, slowing down your opponent(s) and making things annoying for them in general.
Arena of Valor Berith's Agony
Berith’s Agony
You’ll typically find yourself choosing between Berith’s Agony and The Aegis if you want sustain combined with CDR. Berith’s provides 10% less CDR and slightly less armor than The Aegis, but 140 ability power is nothing to scoff at.
Arena of Valor Holy of Holies
Holy of Holies
A massive AP and HP booster, Holy of Holies can be a huge benefit to D’Arcy in terms of raw stats.
Arena of Valor Apocalypse
Apocalypse
Apocalypse gives D’Arcy CDR and a healthy chunk of ability power. Its passive synergizes with his abilities, particularly Dimensional Walk, and most definitely a fully charged Dimensional Walk thanks to Dimensional Force.

Boots Upgrade

Flashy Boots
Flashy Boots gives D’Arcy much needed cooldown reduction, allowing him to constantly use Dimensional Walk and pelt his adversaries with empowered normal attacks. He can also cast Dimensional Cube a bit more liberally with Flashy Boots, since the skill has a bit of a long cooldown.

Sample Item Builds

A typical safe mage build works for D’Arcy, given that he only needs additional HP, cooldowns, and mana. Orb of the Magi is a no-brainer since it gives him all of his needs. Flashy Boots for more CDR. Boomstick gives his Dimensional Cube and Dimensional Portal some additional AOE damage. Rhea’s Blessing gives him some staying power, especially during team fights where he usually is the priority target. Meanwhile, Hecate’s Diadem and Holy of Holies are the icing for this build with all their additional AP.

This build gives D’Arcy the ability to burst down single target enemies. Apocalypse can be bought first for the great synergy with Dimensional Walk. Every other item in this build gives him bonuses any mage would love, more AP, cooldown reduction, and magic penetration.

This build is a more specialized one that helps him deal with beefy heroes. Berith’s Agony allows him to tear into enemy tanks; Staff of Nuul further shreds the enemy’s magic defense. Frosty’s Revenge grants D’Arcy additional utility. Holy of Holies caps off this build since having additional HP on D’Arcy couldn’t hurt. However, if your enemy is using Berith’s Agony as well, it’s best to change Holy of Holies to Hecate’s Diadem for more AP.
