Rock Shield is the only item other than Hyoga’s Edge (though you could make an argument for Asterion’s Buckler) to provide armor, magic defense, and HP all in the same package. The active is what makes this item a must-buy for meat-shield heroes, giving the wielder a massive shield if used adeptly.

Recommended Heroes and/or Situation:

Support heroes – not necessarily listed as supports, but those who provide utility – work best with Rock Shield. For example, Mina’s ultimate taunts enemies around her. Having this item, along with the effect of this ultimate, will make her survive the initial fight. You can also get this if you are the initiator of the team, allowing you to bait out tons of damage and cooldowns while staying alive.

    • It could be? It depends on how it functions with regard to shield damage, which we need to investigate further. That said, you are almost always better off just buying Hercules’ Madness instead.

  1. Hi, appreciate if you could comment on how this item compares to Hercules Madness.
It seems the shield from this item is likely to be less than HM’s shield.
[If we receive damage equal to 50% of HP, the shield will be 30% x 50% = 15%.
    15% + 10% = 25%.
HM gives a shield roughly 33% of total HP].
And there is a reduction in damage output, whereas HM increases Dmg output.
    Cooldown is about the same.
The only advantage I can see for RS over HM is the 800 HP; but HM offers Attack Damage instead.
It seems it would make much more sense if instead of reducing DMG output by 70%, it reduces DMG taken by 70% for 3 secs instead.

    • I think you just laid out a good case for Hercules’ Madness yourself!
The only thing I can say for Rock Shield’s sake is that both armor and magic defense get better with more HP: https://samurai-gamers.com/arena-of-valor/effective-hp/. Not to mention that your shield will be bigger because of the increased HP you have. But yeah, you do make solid points that Hercules’ Madness could be the superior item.

      • Ive experienced both many times and the only thing I can say is that with HM I get destroy faster than RS. HM lasts for 7 seconds but with RS you are almost invincible for 3 sec and can take big damage at the same time
