Max Abilities (Descriptions, Videos, and Mechanics)

Passive Ability Effect
Arena of Valor Static ShockSTATIC SHOCK
True Damage
Every time Max damages an enemy, the enemy gets shocked, causing them to suffer 30 (+4 per level) (+0.18 AD)ˀ true damage per second and have their health regeneration reduced by 25% for 3 seconds.
Ability Mechanics:

  • Damaging effects from items like Mail of Pain and Mantle of Ra do not trigger the shock effect.
  • Stacks in duration (timer resets every time Max applies damage), but not in effect.
  • Stacks with items like Curse of Death and Tome of the Reaper
Ability 1 Effect
Arena of Valor Bionic BlenderBIONIC BLENDER
Physical Damage
Mana: 55
Cooldown: 5
Max spins his robot arms around, dealing 300 (+0.9 AD)  physical damage to enemies. Every time he hits an enemy, he increases his movement speed by 10% (up to a maximum of 30%) for 4 seconds.
1 2 3 4 5 6
Damage 300 360 420 480 540 600
Ability Mechanics:

  • Ability Range: 400 units
  • Max moves forward 150 units when using the ability. The movement speed boost does not make the attack move faster.
  • He can move through minions and heroes but not walls while using this ability.
Ability 2 Effect
Arena of Valor Smooth MovesSMOOTH MOVES
Mana: 65
Cooldown: 12
Max rushes towards his target and flips over them, landing on their opposite side. Once on the other side, Max activates a magnetic force field that reduces Max’s damage taken by 15% for 3 seconds. This ability can be used again within 4 seconds.

Cooldown 12 11.6 11.2 10.8 10.4 10
Damage Reduction 15% 16% 17% 18% 19% 20%
Ability Mechanics:

  • Ability Range: 500 units
  • This ability can pass through walls.
  • Stuns for .25-.5 seconds on hit.
  • Max can be stunned while casting the ability but will not move.
  • Cooldown begins once Max uses the 2nd charge or the timer on the first charge expires
  • Smooth Moves’ damage reduction does not stack with Liftoff’s damage reduction
Ultimate Effect
Arena of Valor LiftoffLIFTOFF
Physical Damage
Mana: 140
Cooldown: 70
Max fires trackers that attach to all enemy heroes for a short time. The trackers allow allies to see the enemies’ locations and interrupt enemy recall actions. While the trackers are active, Max can then select an enemy to track and ram into by holding down the ability button. Ramming into the enemy deals 700/950/1200 (+2.0 AD) physical damage and knocks them back. If Max takes too long to select an enemy, then he will have to fire the trackers again. When Max lands, he activates a magnetic force field that reduces his damage taken, increases his resistance by 30%, and shocks all nearby enemies. Pressing the ability again while Max is tracking an enemy will cancel the attack, making Max land immediately and activate his force field.
1 2 3
Damage 700 950 1200
Cooldown 70 65 60
Ability Mechanics:

  • Ability Range: Global
  • Static Shock-applying aura range: 350 units
  • The damage reduction listed is equal to 20%
  • The damage reduction lasts for 4 seconds, the resistance lasts for 10 seconds, and the shocking aura lasts for 10 seconds
  • Smooth Moves’ damage reduction does not stack with Liftoff’s damage reduction
  • Max can be attacked and damaged while travelling.
  • If wearing Gilded Greaves, Max’s resistance will be capped at 60% (instead of 65%) after using Liftoff
  • If the target dies while Max is travelling, Max will land at the location of the hero’s death and activate his force field

In-Game Tool Tip

Smooth Moves isn’t just a typical movement ability, it is great for positioning yourself to absorb damage for your team. Be sure to block as much damage as you can for your team when you use this ability.

      • So… It’s over 2 months later.. Are they ever going to fix the bug or just remove this character from the game?? If it’s the latter then I may just delete this game and go back to playing LoL. Hate it when they remove good/unique things from games cuz they too lazy/cheap to fix them.

Cancel that.. looks like half the heroes aren’t even available on switch, that’s stupid..

    • Remember that the item and Arcana builds are just guidelines. For example, if the other team doesn’t have much magic damage, then you can pick Gaia’s Standard over Medallion of Troy and still have decent CDR. Or perhaps you want to go with Bastion over Valiance, then you can still get 40% with the build above. Plus, even if you go 10x Valiance, it’s still not the worst idea to go with the build above, as you’ll have lots of CDR in the early game so that you can be a greater help to your team faster.

  1. I think the range for this guy is huuuuuge depending on skill. I haven’t seen one that fits with the rating of S yet, but then again I play mostly casual. On casual, Max is almost at Valhein levels of newb trap. Every games I see one I groan since they mostly charge at things and feed. They also constantly lose 1 on 1s in lanes. Sure it’s a new hero so it’s semi-expected but I haven’t noticed Teemees, Lauriels, Ryomas, or Omens getting straight-up massacred game after game like the Maxes (on NA).

Again, not saying Max is bad but definitely seems to be highly skill-intensive.

    • After several experiences in a match with max.
I can say there’s two kind of max:

      1.towerdiving idiot

2.maximum max, who liftoff and kill lone squishies carry whom pushing too far behind enemy lines, and great observer/ teamfight starter

    • Hi, Code! Our current Tier List (third edition) has him in Tier S+. The “+” means that the hero’s rating is largely based on the player’s skill. Max could easily be in Tier SS in the hands of a very good player but can sink to as low as Tier 2 if not played well.
