Aleister Item Builds
Core Items
These items are necessary in order to play Aleister optimally. Only diverge from a core item if you are a very experienced player or you have a very good reason for doing so
Orb of the Magi is the first item you want to pick up as it grows stronger the longer you have it. The item provides ability power, health, mana, and cooldown speed, all of which are very important to Aleister.
Frosty’s Revenge grants Aleister’s abilities a slowing effect. Already a control power house, the additional slow allows the mage to completely trap his enemies for his team to clean up. The item additionally provides him with some additional movement speed, which is extremely important to the normally snail-paced Aleister. |
Optional Items
Offensive Item Choices
Hecate’s Diadem provides large amounts of ability power while also amplifying the amount of ability power received from other sources. While lacking anything with regard to utility, the sheer damage that Heacate’s Diadem offers makes it a great choice for most mages.
Boomstick can be a good way to amp up Aleister’s damage. His abilities are more control focused and thereby be poor tools for farming gold without the ability power and explosion that Boomstick provides
While not offering any ability power, The Aegis can be a valuable way to stay alive. The item provides large amounts of armor, protecting the user from physical attacks. In addition, it slows any who damage the wearer, making it easier to escape from any who would try to chase you. The item additionally offers large amounts of mana and cooldown reduction, making it particularly useful to mages like Aleister.
Holy of Holies |
Holy of Holies provides a dramatic amount of ability power along with a respectable amount of HP. While lacking much in terms of special effects, the sheer amount of ability power that it provides more than makes the item valuable to Aleister |
Staff of Nuul is a great way to counter tankier enemies. The magic penetration it provides is based on how much defense the opponent has, so the more that they stack, the more penetration it provides.
Rhea’s Blessing allows Aleister to sustain himself when laning through the magic life steal it provides. Aleister’s DoT spells will provide him a steady trickle of health with this, allowing him to stay up longer in fights. The item additionally grants a shield whenever the user’s health falls below 40%, giving the trickster some time to escape from a failing fight. |
Defensive Items Choices
The Aegis gives both mana and armor as well as having a unique passive that reduces the attacker’s attack speed and their movement speed by a significant amount. You can build this item if you have trouble with dealing against AD attacks and want the extra mana that it gives. This also reduces the auto attacks thrown at you and any chasing that they’d do.
Berith’s Agony can be a good pickup if you want a little Armor along your way but would also want to not fully invest on defensive items as Berith’s Agony also provides AP as well as dealing magic damage to the target’s current HP. |
Active Items
Since Aleister doesn’t have any mobility and has limited control abilities, building Arctic Orb greatly increases his survivability in team fights and surprise ganks. |
Sample Item Builds
Were we build up Aleister’s damage in order to devaste those caught by his abilities. He will be sporting an impressive 1728 ability power, allowing his abilities to rip apart enemies caught within. The health offered from Orb of the Magi, Frosty’s Revenge, and Holy of Holies will prevent the mage from feeling too squishy as well, though he still will need to find safe spots to hit foes from to avoid being torn apart too quickly.

This build showcases some ways of toughening Aleister up to where he can withstand a punch or two before crumbling. While a bit short on ability power, Aleister is able to use his control abilities and play more like a support when necessary, making ability power a non-issue. This is furthered by the cooldown reduction the build offers, hitting the sweet 40% spot to allow for maximum casting. He will be particularly strong to physical damage dealers with this build, the items providing a total of 630 armor together.
