Arena of Valor’s North America Release Delayed to 2018
Arena of Valor’s North America release, initially scheduled for mid-November 2017, has now been delayed to 2018, according to the official Arena of Valor Twitter account. Players living in North America were invited to sign up for pre-registration starting in October. Though the timetable for an NA release is suddenly very vague, Arena of Valor has released an apologetic statement promising to make it up to players with additional rewards:
1.All players who have pre-registered will receive the Viking Ormarr skin once servers are live in North America. The promo code for Viking Ormarr has already been sent to those who are currently pre-registered, and once the servers are live in North America, players will be able to use the code to redeem the skin.
2.Players who have pre-registered before November 1st will also receive an additional Fright Circus Mganga skin.
3.We will be adding additional rewards based on how long you have been waiting for release since pre-registering. Based on when we launch, additional rewards could include the Sailor Butterfly skin, an Azzen’ka hero unlock, and a Taara hero unlock.
The initial tweet, posted on November 1, contained an image with the following text:
Hi AoV fans,
Today we’re reporting that the launch of Arena of Valor in North America has been delayed into 2018. The extra time will allow us to further polish, tweak and refine gameplay and social features in the game.
In appreciation for your continued patience, we have added exclusive rewards to accounts that pre-register for the game (arenaofvalor.com/preregister).
We are confident that fans will be happy with the end result. It is mission control for us to deliver a flawless, perfected experience for gamers in North America, and this additional time will allow us to do exactly that.
We thank you for your continued support and look forward to seeing you in the battle arena soon.

Tencent’s Strategy
Arena of Valor players in other parts of the globe may understandably be perplexed as to the reasons for delaying the North America release. On the surface, the game seems polished enough, after all. However, Tencent, owner of Riot Games, is likely after more than just American fans of the MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) genre. If they are able to deliver a refined, easy-to-understand product to the American market, Tencent could reach even the most casual fans of mobile games.
Also, don’t overlook the importance of Tencent’s deal with Nintendo to bring the game to the Switch. That decision is likely influencing Tencent’s timetable as they look to bring a perfect game to not only North America but Japan as well.
