Wukong Item Builds
Core Items
These items are necessary in order to play Wukong optimally. Only diverge from a core item if you are a very experienced player or you have a very good reason for doing so
Wukong relies heavily on critical strikes for damage, so Claves Sancti is a must. Not only does the item provide valuable attack damage and critical chance, it additonally raises the damage done with each critical hit.
Another item that raises critical chance, Slikk’s Sting can give the monkey king a bit of additional survivability. It grants the wielder the valuable resistance stat whenever they critically strike an enemy, allowing them to more easily slip out of enemy control effects. Beyond this, the item offers critical chance, attack speed, and movement speed, making it a great item when it comes to amping up Wukong’s damage output as well.
Soulreaver is the best option for Wukong since he needs attack damage more than anything the other jungling items provide. The cooldown reduction it offers will additionally allow him to move around more quickly with his abilities and empower his attacks more regularly. |
Optional Items
Offensive Items Options
A great item for assassins, Fenrir’s Tooth amplifies the wielder’s damage output when attacking low health targets. While WuKong can already eviserate squishy heroes, Fenrir’s Tooth will help him finish off tankier foes before they are able to escape.
Omni arms is another great offensive item that meshes well with Wukong’s kit. The added damage the item provides stacks with how Wukong’s passive, leading to the monkey king being able to unleash devastating destruction when he strikes.
Muramasa allows Wukong to bash through enemies without regard to their armor. As it ignores a percentage of the target’s armor rather than a flat amount, the item is far more useful when attacking foes with large amounts of armor rather than squishier foes. |
Defensive Items Options
Leviathan can be a substitute for Soulreaver if confident your your damage and wanting a bit more sustained damage in fights. The health and armor it provides will go a long way in staving off enemy fire.
Wukong is exceptionally squishy and thereby can be quickly killed late game. Ancestral Glory will pick up Wukong after he is killed, giving some additional time to either fight or escape from team fights. |
Boots Upgrade
Hermes’ Select allows Wukong to roam the map much more quickly, providing additional speed while outside of battle. A great jungle boots upgrade when looking to gank the lanes quickly and efficiently.
Gilded Greaves will help Wukong escape from stuns and disables, adding to his overall slipperiness. This is a great choice when dealing with an enemy team that is rather heavy on control effects.. |

This build focuses on Wukong’s main strength: beating people to death with his monkey stick. The build gives his a comfortable 65% critical chance (including his passive.) While more is certainly possible, it would detract too much from his attack damage (Devil’s Handshake) or not add anything but stats to his kit (Bow of Slaughter.) He will have a very high attack power through Soulreaver and Fenrir’s Tooth, ensuring that those critical strikes have some actual weight behind them. Omni Arms furthers Wukong’s explosive burst by stacking its own damage atop his modified strikes. Feel free to substitute in Muramasa if the enemy is heavily stacking armor.
Given how well he does with the same few items, we had to get rather theoretical for the lane build. Wukong’s abilities give him a great deal of mobility and can thereby give him a lot of control over a lane. In addition, Wukong still maintains a heavy ganking strength, able to quickly move from his lane to help an adjacent lane. Despite trading off Soulreaver, the monkey king will still have a impressive amount of burst damage with the provided suite of offensive items. He is even able to take both Omni Arms and Muramasa simultaneously, making him even more effective against more durable foes.
