Arena of Valor Zephys

Hero Item Builds List

Core Items

These items are necessary in order to play Zephys optimally. Only diverge from a core item if you are a very experienced player or you have a very good reason for doing so.

Arena of Valor Leviathan
Leviathan
Zephys is best suited to the jungle and Leviathan is his go-to jungle item. His passive increases damage reduction based on what percentage of his health he is missing. As such, having a larger health pool will result in him being able to benefit from the passive at higher total health. The armor it provides is a nice touch as well, as is the area burn it provides. With how close Zephys gets to his targets, he will regularly be able to spread the burn around without having the change up his playstyle.
Arena of Valor Spear of Longinus
Spear of Longinus
Spear of Longinus meshes perfectly with Death’s Flurry, each of Zephys’ blows applying a stack of Longinus’ passive. This allows him to tear away armor extraordinarily quickly and cut straight to his target’s juicy innards.
Arena of Valor Frost Cape
Frost Cape
Frost Cape pairs wonderfully with Death Rift, the bonus damage and slow from each stacking together. This makes Zephys very hard to escape from both in team fights and when ganking. The armor, health, and cooldown reduction are all welcome additions to Zephys’ arsenal as well.

Optional Items

Arena of Valor Rankbreaker
Rankbreaker
If wanting even further armor pierce than Spear of Longinus offers alone, Rankbreaker offers a decent amount as well. Unlike Spear of Longinus, Rankbreaker applies all of its armor pierce at once, allowing the user to ignore the opponent’s armor without any set up. The item additionally offers some movement speed when outside of combat, allowing Zephys an easier time moving to targets when ganking.
Arena of Valor Hercules Madness Updated Icon
Hercules’ Madness
A good fusion item that offers the user a moderate amount of both armor and magic resist. More importantly, however, the item grants an attack steroid and shield whenever the user’s health falls under 40%, allowing for a last big stand before dying. Given Zephys’ tankiness when low on health, this can be a very powerful buff, allowing him to rip apart enemies in fights that he would otherwise lose.
Arena of Valor Fenrir's Tooth
Fenrir’s Tooth
Maybe you have properly stacked up defense and are looking for a bit of additional firepower. Fenrir’s Tooth is a great way to finish off a build, offering large amounts of attack damage to the user. In addition, the item amplifies the damage done to low health enemies, which is perfect for assassins like Zephys.
Arena of Valor Mail of Pain
Mail of Pain
When looking to specifically counter enemy marksmen or warriors, Mail of Pain is a great choice. The item not only offers large amounts of health and armor, but also reflects back a percentage of physical damage done to the wearer.
Arena of Valor Medallion of Troy
Medallion of Troy
Medallion of Troy is a great value for all it offers. The wearer will receive large amounts of health, magic resist, and some cooldown reduction. On top of all of this, the item provides a magic blocking shield to deter magic users. This is a great choice when dealing with mages, protecting Zephys as he dives in to spear their squishy mage faces.
Arena of Valor Ancestral Glory
Ancestral Glory
If the durability offered by Zephys’ passive and items isn’t enough, Ancestral Glory is your back up plan. Reviving the user after death, the item makes up for its lacking stats by allowing the assassin to keep up a fight after absorbing he full first wave of enemy fire.

Boots Upgrade

Arena of Valor Sonic Boots
Sonic Boots
A great pick when dealing with marksmen or warriors who rely on their normal attacks. Sonic Boots provide both armor and damage reduction against normal attacks, making it a great pick up for the durable assassin.
Arena of Valor Gilded Greaves
Gilded Greaves
While Sonic Boots is a great pick up when dealing with physical damage, Gilded Greaves will be your go to when dealing with mages. The magic resistance it offers it nice, but more importantly, it offers resistance to control effects. Being able to slip out of stuns and slows will ensure that Zephys can make a quick escape should he ever outstay his welcome.

Sample Item Builds

The most typical way to build Zephys is to focus primarily on his defenses. He gains some offensive potential through Frost Cape and Spear of Longinus but will mostly be relying on his abilities’ excellent base damage to cut through opponents. Focusing on defense meshes well with his passive, turning him into a extremely durable off-tank even when focusing on hybrid items like we did here.

This build takes Zephys a bit further into damage territory, taking away some of the safety that defensive items bring and investing the free space on total offense. Spear of Longinus and Muramasa together will have the assassin dealing near-true damage to squishy targets, cutting straight through their defenses. This build is additionally finished off with Fenrir’s Tooth, turning the brawling assassin into a powerful finisher.

While he is most suited to the jungle, a roaming or laning Zephys could find some worth. He will just suffer from mana problems without blue buff on his side. The additional item slot offered up by not taking Leviathan gives us a few options. Here we opted for Mail of Pain, physical damage sources outnumbering magical ones in the game. However should the need arise, taking a more magic defensive item like Gaia’s Standard is a perfectly reasonable pick as well.
40% CDR sweet-spot, very bursty early to mid game, damage output comes from Reaver, Spear, and Cape, as well as his high base dmg. Gaia’s Standard and Hercules Madness give some tankiness, and use level 3 tank arcana.
A variation of the more defensive Zephys build, this one will make the assassin much more lethal while still maintaining a great deal of survivability. He will be less able to translate into a brawler later in the game, but should be a nightmare to squishier foes.
Arena of Valor ZephysDarkBreaker’s Double Burn Build, submit by DanTheSpearton
Leviathan Gilded Greaves Mantle of Ra Spear of Longinus Omni Arms Medallion of Troy
Arena of Valor Leviathan Arena of Valor Gilded Greaves Arena of Valor Mantle of Ra Arena of Valor Spear of Longinus Arena of Valor Omni Arms Arena of Valor Medallion of Troy
35% CDR
Double burn magic damage
Not as tanky as the Durable Assassin build, but it still packs a punch with that double burn early game
Spear gives some armor “pierce’ and it just has good stats overall
Omni Arms also has good stats, and a nice passive, but you can replace it with Frost Cape and Medallion gives you magic defense and even more CDR.
Melee heroes will generally find a lot of use in the double burn that Leviathan and Mantle of Ra offer together, especially those with more defensive leanings. Zephys can use his base damage to rough enemies up while the firy auras further drain at their health. He will have very thick skin as well, the heavy defensive stats the item set offers allowing him to take considerable amounts of damage before falling.
-Leviathan and Ra: give you double burn and can provide you lots of damage in teamfight.
-Gilded greaves/Sonic Boots: Give extra armor, late game you can replace it with Muramasa, Spear of Longinus or Fenrir’s Tooth.
-Frost Cape: give you more disables
-Medallion of Troy: Give you CDR, high magic defense and health
Blade of Eternity:Must have this item during late game, provide 10% damage you’ve dealt, and can replace it with Hercules’ Madness, Death Sickle or maybe Amulet of Longevity ???? (just kidding).
One big disadvantage is that you will only have 20% CDR if play this build, but not a really big problem because Zephys already has short cooldown abilities and when you have blue buff (since you are a Jungler)
I called it “Durable Jungler”.
P/s: you may think this build can’t deal very much damage? Not Really! The damage itself is enough to kill a squishy marksman or spellcaster if you use your combo efficiently (and lucky) enough, and remember, late game if you were rich, you could replace your boots with an attack item. Try it and you will see!
And Sorry for bad English ????
Love From Việt Nam
Another hybrid build that takes advantage of the double burn provided by both Leviathan and Mantle of Ra. The main weakness here is a lack of armor pierce, however the high damage and hefty durability should make this less of an issue.

  1. Since Zephys passive could be enhanced by any green runes, so, it is good to take Zephys in burst Assassin mode.

    My build are:
Leviathan (to add more health and DPS)
Gilded Greaves (For ressist of enemies CC)
Rankbreaker (For armor shreds and escaping tools in mid game)
Omni Arms (Enhances lifesteal of 2nd skill)
Muramasa (if so much tanks)/Hercules Madness (Enhances survivability)
Fenrir’s Tooth (For large amount of damage for finishes enemies in late game)

  2. Here is my (Switch) Zephys Jungle build! I call it Double Fire Jungle!
    -Leviathan-
Standard jungling item, gives a great amount of tankiness, and also a burn effect to help in team fights.
    -Greaves/Sonic Boots-
Basic boots upgrade. Choose Sonic if there are no mages and low Cc, choose Greaves otherwise.
    -Mantle Ra-
Gives a ton of defence, a little attack buff, and most importantly, another burn effect that stacks with Leviathan. With your abilities dealing physical damage, and these doing Magic, the enemies will need to get both types of items
    -Mail of Pain-
Extra defence, and if any physical attacker trys to lay a hand on you, they will be hurt.
    -Frost Cape-
Gives a ton of good effects, and a great way to keep chasing your opponents.
    -Spear of Longinus-
Of course, with deaths flurry, will shred anyone to the bone.
    Hope you liked!

  3. (it is really similar to daed gaem’s build I just switched the blade of eternity because I couldnt find it in switch)I wanna submit my build: Similiar to dead game, I chose leviathen and ra, just for the burn. I choose hyoga’s edge because it grants 100 armor, 100 magic defense, and 1200 max hp. With the passive of biting cold, it increases the wearers movement speed by 10% and reduce the targets by 25% for 2 seconds, just for a getaway. Medalian of troy is also good for defending you against enemies, so I chose that as well. Gilded greaves for that nice resistance and speed boost, and the frost cape. It is decent for my first build. I call it “Speedy mc speedy”

  4. I’d like to submit my build:
-Leviathan and Ra: give you double burn and can provide you lots of damage in teamfight.
-Gilded greaves/Sonic Boots: Give extra armor, late game you can replace it with Muramasa, Spear of Longinus or Fenrir’s Tooth.
-Frost Cape: give you more disables
-Medallion of Troy: Give you CDR, high magic defense and health
Blade of Eternity:Must have this item during late game, provide 10% damage you’ve dealt, and can replace it with Hercules’ Madness, Death Sickle or maybe Amulet of Longevity 😀 (just kidding).
One big disadvantage is that you will only have 20% CDR if play this build, but not a really big problem because Zephys already has short cooldown abilities and when you have blue buff (since you are a Jungler)
    I called it “Durable Jungler”.

  5. So I’m back with another build, and this build is actually really good if you’re really skilled mechanically; better than the original build in fact, BUT, because of the lack of CDR in this build, like I said, you need to be skilled mechanically. Leviathan, Gilded Greaves, Rankbreaker, Frost Cape, Fenrir’s tooth, Medallion Of Troy/Gaia’s Standard. If you opt for Medallion, you get 20% CDR but it has less base stats than Gaia’s; if you opt for Gaia’s, you have a little more base stats and speed but less protection from magic damage. You really need to be good mechanically speaking because if you screw up, you don’t have at least 30% CDR to forgive any misses in skills and your overall skill with your fingers. BUT, this build is really tanky and you deal LOT’s of damage too. More so than the original build in fact. In fact, one could make up for the lack of CDR through arcana and then you could also boost the tankiness of the build or increase your damage.

  6. I just wanted to ask if you guys are going to implement the “Dual Embers Build” for Zephys, the one I mentioned below (or above) with Leviathan and Mantle of Ra in it. I credited the build to Darkbreaker, but lol, it doesn’t really matter.

      • Dang guys, you need to fix up that Double Burn build a LOT. Lot’s of errors in the description, lol, this is a build for Zephys, not Zanis. This build wouldn’t work optimally on Zanis anyways.

        • To be fair on this front, you listed both Frost Cape and Omni Arms as options. I did update the description though, as I got mixed up with the similar names between Zanis and Zephys when writing.

          • Hehe, sorry about that. Frost Cape is still an option but I would say that with this build it’s better to have Omni Arms as the default item and Frost Cape would be the situational option. If it seemed like I was being a jerk, I’m sorry; that comment was meant to have a chill tone to it lol.

  7. Soulreaver, Gilded Greaves, Spear of Longinus, Frost Cape, Gaia’s Standard, Hercules Madness
40% CDR sweet-spot, very bursty early to mid game, damage output comes from Reaver, Spear, and Cape, as well as his high base dmg. Gaia’s Standard and Hercules Madness give some tankiness, and use level 3 tank arcana.

  8. Leviathan, Gilded Greaves, Mantle of Ra, Spear of Longinus, Omni Arms/Frost Cape, Medallion of Troy

Also, just so you guys know, I pulled this build from Youtube so please don’t credit me; the only thing I did was change up one item (the video I got this from has Muramasa instead of Spear). Late game, you could replace Gilded Greaves with anything else :\
