Zill Item Builds
Core Items
These items are necessary in order to play Zill optimally. Only diverge from a core item if you are a very experienced player and you have a very good reason for doing so.
As he is most often used in the jungle, Zill will usually be buying a jungling item. Loki’s Curse is the natural choice, not only due to providing a large amount of ability power (though that certainly doesn’t hurt,) but the damage bonus it provides after ability casts synergizes extremely well with Dustdevil. | |
This is a bit of a cheesy pick, but it works. Despite other after-ability effects not stacking, Loki’s Curse and Apocalypse both stack together. This turns a small burst into an explosion of damage, allowing Zill to tear very quickly through enemies before they have a proper chance to react. | |
As a melee mage, Zill needs more durability than other ability power centric heroes. Rhea’s Blessing gives him a source of regeneration via magic life steal as well as a shield whenever his health falls low. The extra staying power will allow Zill to keep on fighting after his initial combo and make continued use of Dust Devil. |
Optional Items
This bad boy gives ability power and a lot of it. Not only does it have a high amount of base ability power, the item additionally increases the amount of ability power provided by any other items Zill buys. | |
Sometimes the enemy will grow wise to your damage and start to build up some magic defense to mitigate it. Even if just blindly following their builds, most players will buy some sort of magic defense at some point which will hinder Zill’s ability to slaughter fools. Staff of Null helps him out by blasting away a percentage of the enemy’s defense to allow Zill to cut through them without hinderance. | |
While not offering any special effects, Holy of Holies offers up large amounts of both ability power and HP. The gold efficiency and sheer raw power the item offers makes it a great way to finish off builds. | |
Zill needs to get up close to his enemies as a melee hero, meaning his targets will almost always be within range of Soaring Aura. The item lowers the enemy’s magic defense by a flat amount, making it a great way to tear through squishier enemies. |
Boots Upgrade
When wanting an offensive boots upgrade, Enchanted Kicks is your best bet. The boots provide magic pierce, allowing Zill to ignore some of his target’s defences and atatck their life directly. | |
When instead needing a defensive option, Gilded Graves can be a big help to Zill. The resistance they provide shorten the time that he spends affected by control abilities and will thereby allow him an easier time escaping from enemies. |
Sample Item Builds
Loki’s Curse | Enchanted Kicks | Apocalypse | Rhea’s Blessing | Hecate’s Diadem | Staff of Nuul |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
The most typical way to build Zill is as a magic assassin, capitalizing on his high mobility and damage potential. Each item contributes to his ability power, Loki’s Curse and Apocalypse offering a fantastic burst after using an ability. Staff of Null and Enchanted Kicks will allow him to cut through enemy defenses as well, ensuring that he isn’t shut down by defenses in the late game.
Loki’s Curse | Gilded Greaves | Apocalypse | Rhea’s Blessing | Soaring Aura | Holy of Holies |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
While best suited to the jungle, Zill is more than capable at taking a place in the lane as well. Doing so causes us to ditch Loki’s Curse, moving to Apocalypse right away. We can use the additional slot to really pump up Zill’s ability power, however, taking both Holy of Holies and Hecate’s Diadem for heavy amounts of damage potential. Zill’s high mobility should be exploited betwen minion waves by moving to other lanes to gank unsuspecting opponents.

Why not use frosty revenge as well ? so he can chase his enemies more easily
I guess, other than its slow effect, nothing really adds up on him. Zill is a Burst-oriented hero, and most player chose to focus on this Part so that he can be a One-Burst-Combo heroes, and rarely does any enemies able to pass to him
