Arena of Valor TORO

Toro Overview

Toro is a melee Tank who boasts a dramatic amount of survivability. He is able to take damage and pin down targets with a number of control abilities, allowing his teammates to finish them off.

Strengths

  • Good at Initiating – Toro’s abilities excel in crowd disruption and disabling. This is particularly useful during team fights since your abilities can potentially stun multiple enemies, leaving them open to your team’s follow up damage.
  • Good at Ganking – Toro is surprisingly good at ganking thanks to Bull Rush and Cracked Earth. His ganks become exceptionally good once he gets to Level 4.
  • Extremely Tanky – Toro is great at soaking up damage for his team. During team fights, he is able to take a good chunk of his opponents’ damage and crowd control while dishing out his own punishing abilities onto the opposing team.

Weakness

  • Ability I Dependent – Most of Toro’s power comes from him using his abilities in succession. That said, most of his abilities have high cooldowns, soonce he has exhausted them, his usefulness goes down until he is able to use them once again.
  • Low Damage – Just like most tanks, Toro’s auto attacks are slow and cumbersome. In addition, his abilities don’t deal much damage. If you’re the type of player who wants to get a lot of kills, Toro is not an ideal hero for you.
  • Weak Against Mobile Heroes – Toro has trouble dealing with highly elusive heroes. If enemies manage to dodge his abilities, Toro is vulnerable to retaliation.

Hero Basic Strategy

Laning Strategy

  • Toro should be played as a supporting, roaming between lanes to aid in ganks.
  • Do your best to zone enemies away from your damage dealers by staying in the front line. If they stray too close, use your Bull Rush + Battlecry combo to deal a good chunk of damage.
  • Protect your lane partner from getting harassed by standing in between your ally and the enemy. Toro’s doing his best when absorbing damage for his team.

Leveling Progression:

  • Start with Bull Rush and use it on enemies whenever you see an opening to them your opponent off guard.
  • Afterwards, level up Battlecry to bolster your ability to soak damage during team fights. This ability is also strong whenever you get to cast it close to an opponent.
  • Finally, whenever you can, level up Cracked Earth. This serves as your primary engaging ability when you coordinate team fights and ganks.

Battle Strategy:

Ganking:

Solo Fights:

Toro is not particularly good in one on one situations since his abilities are geared towards team fights. That is to say, they have low amounts of damage spread over an area rather than small bursts. That said, he can stand his ground against melee skirmishes thanks to his tankiness. Lead with Bull Rush to get close to an enemy. Afterward, use Battlecry to deal more damage. However, against ranged opponents, you’re better off backing away and calling for help.

Team Fights:

Lead the charge with Cracked Earth, targeting an area where the opposing team is clustered. Afterward, Use Bull Rush on either a high priority target or on the opposing tanks to stifle their crowd control and damage-soaking capabilities. Use Battlecry to gain a shield once in the fray.

Escaping the Battle

  • Direct Bull Rush in the direction you want to escape when a team fight is not going your way.
  • During a losing team fight, do your best to help your team escape. You can do this by using Battlecry and Bull Rush to disable your enemies and draw their fire.

Abilities

Arena of Valor Tough Hide Tough Hide (Passive) –  Toro will not be affected by Control Effects when using abilities. Damage taken also reduces by 20%
  • Tough Hide enables Toro to use all his abilities even if he is getting bombarded with crowd control. This makes him especially potent during team fights, where his abilities can disrupt the opposing team.
Arena of Valor Bull Rush Bull Rush – Toro lunges towards his enemies, causing 115/130/145/160/175/190 (+1 AD) physical damage and knocking them into the air.
  • Bull Rush is Toro’s secondary Control ability. This allows you to gank lanes and further disrupt opponents by leaving them open for your allies to finish off during clashes.
  • Defensively, Bull Rush can knock up enemies who are chasing you or your allies. You can also disengage with this ability.
Arena of Valor Battlecry Battlecry – Toro bellows with rage, gaining a shield that absorbs 250/300/350/400/450/500 damage. Also deals 375/425/475/525/575/625 (+1.2 AD) physical damage to enemies within range and slows their movement speed by 35% for 1 second.
  • Battlecry gives Toro additional survivability during team fights through its shield. It also deals good damage and slows enemies hit, which allows your team to pick off the stragglers or escape unwanted team fights.
Arena of Valor Cracked Earth Cracked Earth – Toro leaps to the target area and stomps the ground 3 times. The first 2 stomps deal 150/200/250 (+0.75 AD) physical damage, and the third stomp deals additional 300 (+1.5 AD) physical damage. The first stomp reduces enemies’ movement speed by 30% for 1 second; the second stomp reduces enemies’ movement speed by 50% for 1 second; the third stomp knocks enemies into the air.
  • Cracked Earth is your primary initiating ability. Target the area where you can hit the opposing marksmen or mages to slow and disable them during team fights.
  • You can follow up with Bull Rush and Battlecry to further sway the clash in your team’s favor.
  • Airborne duration the third time the ground is smashed is 1.5 seconds

How to Counter Toro

  • Avoid attacking Toro and you should be able to avoid most of his influence. His attacks are rather low in power and thereby can be ignored in team fights.
  • Coax Toro into going all-in with his abilities and try to avoid getting hit. Once he exhausts his abilities, his damage output decreases immensely.

Hero Arcana

  • Toro can run a standard tank arcana setup to bolster his overall survivability and HP Pool. This includes using Indomitable, Benevolence, and Valiance.
  • He can also run with offensive arcana by using Onslaught, Assassinate, and Skewer to give his damaging abilities some additional kick.

Hero Counters

Arena of Valor Tank Tank

In terms of damage, Toro usually comes about behind the other tanks. That said his defense is impressive, even by tank standards, evening things out. In addition, his abilities will allow him to avoid any control effects they may have.

Arena of Valor Warrior Warrior

Toro is effective against warriors so long as he gets the jump on them first. Doing so will keep them occupied and away from his allies, which should be his main objective in team fights.

Arena of Valor Assassin Assassin

Toro is decent against assassins, but he needs to get his items first before he can do more than act as a damage sponge. Damage-wise, he has to tag them with his Bull Rush + Battlecry combo early and often in order to leave them open to his team.

Arena of Valor Mage Mage

Toro is somewhat good against mages. He will have a harder time hitting them with his control abilities, though, due to their range and control abilities. Keep in between
Arena of Valor Marksman Marksman

Toro is good at dealing initial damage against marksmen. He is particularly effective if he is able to hit the opposing marksman with both Cracked Earth and Bull Rush.

Arena of Valor Support Support

Toro struggles against support heroes since they can mitigate his initial damage and even stop his engagements altogether. Since Toro’s role is setting up for team fights, it is best to focus on the damage dealers first.
