Arena of Valor’s New Hero Gildur, the Golden King

Arena of Valor will release yet another hero to add to the game’s playable roster on the Valiant server, which includes the Philippines, Malaysia, and Singapore. Gildur, the Golden King is set to make his debut in these regions on November 3, 2017, according to Garena PH’s Arena of Valor Facebook page.

The hero has already been available in China and Indonesia servers. There is still no word if Gildur will be playable on the North American version of the game.

Pugilists in MOBA games are sometimes built as lean warriors, assassins or junglers. Arena of Valor’s newest fist fighter, however, fulfills the role of a tank. Gildur is special among other characters in this class because of his unique play style. The Golden King uses long-range pokes that deal magic damage, and he also has good crowd control abilities. His CC abilities create opportunities for follow-up damage either through him or his allies. A shield buff activates when he hits his opponent four times. This shield allows Gildur to endure more incoming damage or give him a safe escape in case his HP gets low.

A lot of speculation came last week about this upcoming hero. Arena of Valor PH‘s Facebook page teased a photo saying that the hero would bring back the “Golden Standard”. The photo strongly hinted of Gildur, as the hand in the image below strongly resembled his.

Gildur’s ability set includes one passive ability and three active abilities. His passive ability, Midas Touch, knocks back his targets in front of him after a fourth successful attack. This ability also grants him a brief shield buff whenever his three active abilities Siege, Extravagant and Indulgence are used as follow-up attacks.

Gildur’s first active physical ability, Siege, allows him to charge forward, dealing damage to all enemies in his path. This is a handy ability for chasing down his enemies and allows him to pass through walls and jungle obstacles. Gildur’s second ability, Extravagant, launches molten gold to an enemy that explodes upon contact. This is an Area of Effect (AoE) ability which stuns and deals magic damage to enemies nearby. The Golden King’s Ultimate ability is Indulgence. Gildur summons golden shards that deal continuous magic damage while stunning his enemies.

If players are planning to make Gildur their main tank hero, they need to be skilled in three particular areas: 1) proper execution in delivering CC and magic damage combos, 2) quick decision-making, especially in using CC effects on opposing players while shielding Gildur against them and 3) good communication with the player’s allies so that they can take advantage of the CC to finish off their opponents.

Arena of Valor is a massively popular mobile Multiplayer Online Battle Arena which features intense player-versus-player combat similar to genre titan League of Legends. Arena of Valor is the world’s highest-grossing mobile game app, first launching its beta version in China on November 26, 2015. The game is also playable in other East Asia countries and to most South-East Asian regions having a monthly active player base of 200 million users in 2017.
