Arena of Valor (AoV) - Huge New Patch Coming Soon?! (March 27 Taiwan Patch Notes Translation)

A huge new patch has gone live on Arena of Valor's Taiwan server, significantly changing multiple heroes and items, adding two new items, and adding several quality-of-life changes. Global patches typically hit Taiwan first, meaning it's likely a matter of time before these go live around the world.

Overview

Update: We’ve gone over all the changes and what it will mean for heroes, items, and overall game play.

Garena announced the patch notes for Arena of Valor’s newest update. While not yet official for any other servers, the Taiwanese server has normally been the first to see any major changes to the game. Our crack team of investigators has collected the notes and, after a lively session of googling and bickering, have put together an English translation of a majority of the notes. Keep in mind that a few updates weren’t decipherable and so the list is not fully complete.

General Game Additions

Some of these are less likely to be global changes than others. For example, the LINE application is much more widespread in east Asia than in other parts of the world.

New Game System

A new “Online Tournament” mode will be added. For limited periods of time, teams of five will compete against one another for the title of best in the region.

Daily Lucky Draw

A log-in reward gatcha/lucky draw system will be added to the game, providing players with one free spin per day and the chance to win additional spins at specific points in time.

Change Log

Heroes that have recently changed or tweaked in a patch will be marked in game. This will notify players of how the hero has been changed as well as a link to a web page detailing the change along with reasons for the change.

Call for Help

After losing a match, players will have the ability to message a friend for help. If the friend accepts, the player will receive a reward of gold.

Social Integration

Players will now be able to directly share images on a picture sharing channel along with added Whatsapp and Instagram channels. Players will also be able to share pictures through LINE. Furthermore, links to Arena of Valor’s Facebook and YouTube pages will be placed on the main menu screen.

Friend Gold Extention

Players will now have seven days to claim gold sent by a friend.

Game Functions

Liliana and The Flash grace the loading screen of Arena of Valor’s Taiwanese client

Again, it is unclear how many of these changes will be implemented globally.

Title

The game will receive a new title animation.

Match Score Card

The “detailed information” page at the end of the match will be improved as well as score calculation.

Gift Center

The gift center will be a tab in the store rather than a special button on top.

Friend Request

Players will be notified whenever another player accepts their friend request.

Teams

Guilds will be able to create in-guild teams. These teams can be managed in the Guild tab.

Disconnect Prevention

The system for detecting AFK players will improve. AFK players will be immediately punished after considered missing and their allies will be notified.

Arcana Pages

Players will be able to own up to 30 arcana pages.

Draft Mode

The changes between the different stages of drafting will be more pronounced. In addition, a special qualifier will start in the new season, introducing a dual ban system wherein four total heroes will be banned from the game.

Battlefield Changes

A few in-game improvements seem to be on the way.

Brightness

Players will be able to choose from a number of brightness settings to improve visibility. These are Darkest, Dark, Normal, Bright, and Brightest.

Health Packs

The health packs behind towers will no longer be visible when inside the fog of war.

Tall Grass

Players will now disappear 0.2 seconds after entering the brush rather than immediately.

Jungle Monsters

The behaviors of the Might Golem, Sage Golem, and Wolf monsters will be improved. While they previously were limited to one attack, they will now have two.

Towers

Towers will now provide gold bounties based on their tier. Previously, destroying any tower would grant the team 100 gold. Now, destroying a tier one tower will grant the team 60 gold each, a tier two will give everyone 80 gold, and destroying a tier three will provide 100 gold. In addition, towers now behave differently when no enemy minions are nearby. Tier one towers will now gain 60% damage reduction rather than doubled armor, tier two towers will benefit from 70% damage reduction, and tier three towers will get an impressive 75% damage reduction.

Three on three

Players will now be able to take a second talent rather than the typical “return” talent. “Return” has very little use on the tiny map, walking usually a faster option.

Quality of Life Improvements

Anything that makes the game less clunky is a welcome change!

Casting

Heroes will now be easier to control when moving and casting an ability at the same time, particularly when moving away from the target location.

Attributes Page

The size and location of the hero attributes page will be adjusted so that players can view the minimap and move while viewing the page.

Big Phones

Adjusted the full-screen mode of wide-screen phones (e.g. iPhone X) so that the view fills the entirety of the screen. Previous banners and buttons have been removed, game controls edged to their proper places next to the edge of the screen.

Button Improvement

This one was harder to decipher and therefore our understanding is unclear. Particular buttons have been improved so that, when pressed, their touch boundary is temporarily enlarged.

Minion Button

The targeting behavior of the minion target button will be improved so that a hero will continue attacking minions and monsters even when an enemy hero draws near.

Ability Delays

Several heroes are now able to cast abilities immediately after one another.

Liliana: Can now cast an ability immediately after using Unpredictable.

Preyta: Can now cast Poison Gas Bomb immediately after Plague Specter.

Nakroth: Can now use two skills immediately after one another.

Kriknak: Can now use the second instance of his ultimate immediately after the first.

Items

A new Tier 3 jungling item (and its sub-item) appears to be on the way, offering an alternative to Soulreaver for attack-based junglers. There’s a lot to unpack here regarding the potential meta shifts the changes to these items could incur, so we’ll wait until the changes are officially made global before weighing in.
