Quillen Item Builds
Core Items
These items are necessary in order to play Quillen optimally. Only diverge from a core item if you are a very experienced player or you have a very good reason for doing so.
As an assassin, Quillen is best suited to the jungle. As such, he will need a jungling weapon to minimise his clear times. Soulreaver is the no-brainer choice for him, the additional attack damage a huge plus and the on-engagement damage passive allowing for easier early kills. | |
Though Quillen always crits from the back, it doesn’t mean much when the damage is only 125% (a normal crit for other heroes is 200%). Claves Sancti is a quick and easy remedy for that, providing 62.5% critical damage (50% from the passive and 12.5% from the crit chance) to bring him up to a reasonable 187.5%. The 90 AD it provides is also very welcome. |
Optional Items
Quillen can make use of everything that Rankbreaker offers. The armor pierce is great for cutting right to enemies’ health, the attack bonus is always welcome, and the out-of-combat movement speed will help him move between lanes faster. Because Quillen usually doesn’t want to waste his time with tanky heroes anyway, building Rankbreaker late can be a reasonable choice. | |
Mutilate somewhat surprisingly acts as both an ability and attack when it comes to Elemental Power (without using another ability, the first strike of Mutilate will proc it), so it would be a waste to not build either Omni Arms or Frost Cape. All of the other stats on Omni Arms are useful on Quillen, so Omni Arms is the preferred choice. | |
Needing to ensure his target’s death in order to refresh his abilities, Quillen loves Fenrir’s Tooth. The damage to low health targets will help him finish them off and move on to the next victim. | |
Muramasa is an assassin’s answer to armor stacking. The more armor that an opponent has, the more effective the weapon is – though Quillen typically has enough damage that he can kill squishies with Muramasa and without Rankbreaker. The added cooldown reduction is a nice bonus as well. | |
Fafnir’s Talon may seem like an odd choice until you consider that Mutilate procs the Dragon’s Breath passive – twice. Against HP-stacking heroes, this is your answer, as you’ll rip through their HP whether you’re positioned in front or behind. |
Boots Upgrade
Gilded Greaves |
Nothing stops an assassin’s rhythm like stuns or slows. Gilded Greaves helps to lessen their impact on the wearer, allowing them to get back to jolly murder as soon as possible. This can be the difference between glorious victory and embarrassing defeat for Quillen, so should be highly prioritized. |
Perhaps the enemy team isn’t so heavy on crowd control. Perhaps instead they have a bunch of physical damage dealers with death in their eyes. Sonic Boots can take some of the edge off of their attacks through armor and damage reduction, allowing for happier times to the otherwise squishy Quillen. | |
Flashy Boots will allow Quillen to cast his abilities more regularly by reducing their cooldowns. This can be a huge boost to his lethality with how reliant the assassin is on his abilities. |
Sample Item Builds
Soulreaver | Gilded Greaves | Claves Sancti | Omni Arms | Muramasa | Fenrir’s Tooth |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
This is about as lethal as it gets, and you should be killing squishies pretty easily by the time Claves Sancti is finished. Fenrir’s Tooth is a bit of a crutch if you want to take out beefier warriors or even tanks, though Blade of Eternity can be substituted in for those who want to hedge their bets.
For those times when you really want to kill the entire team and not just the squishies. Though it’s only one item change, the difference between Fafnir’s Talon and Omni Arms is pretty vast when it comes to who you’re targeting. The passive on Fafnir’s Talon does very little to squishies (though you can still kill them), but it will rip apart tanks provided you can stick around for a couple seconds.
Sometimes there’s a dummy on your team who sees your Quillen and stubbornly wants to jungle anyway. In that case, we make do with this build. Claves Sancti is so important to Quillen that we forego Rankbreaker to build it first, then make our way down the build like normal. Blade of Eternity will provide tons of damage due to its passive, so it fits snugly into the build. Fenrir’s is last simply because it’s so expensive, but you can build it before Blade of Eternity if you so choose.

Build Name–> Swift Assassination
For the build I go Mr.Stabby, Hermes (to rotate faster), finish Soulreaver, Claves Sancti, Rankbreaker, Omni Arms, Then BoE (once the two revives are down I get Fenrir’s tooth or Death Scythe if that’s your thing).
Build Name: The Rampaging Shadow
This build is a build for focusing and killing all the squishies, cleaning up the battlefield, and then fleeing like a shadow to return to clear the jungle. With this build you want to only focus squishies (if you want to kill and assist in killing tanks switch out Rank Breaker for Muramasa)
Mr.Stabby, Gilded Greaves (or any boots that you see fit for the situation), Claves Sancti, (finish soul reaver), Rank Breaker, Fenrir’s tooth, Omni Arms.
this build is tanky but deadly enough.
leviathan, gilded greaves, rankbreaker, clave sancti, frostcape, fenrir tooth, blade of eternity.
