Arena of Valor Riktor

Riktor Overview

Riktor is a strong warrior who can adapt to his environment to change his abilities. He is very agile, able to dash around the battle field with Jungle Strike and resist enemy fire with Retaliate. His ultimate, Mark of the Hunter, creates a damaging barrier around him while marking a target for death.

Strengths

  • Versatile – Riktor’s ability to change his abilities based on his terrain allows him to excel in a number of situations. Positioning himself well before a fight can give him a regular advantage over his opponents.
  • Great at Diving – Retaliate gives Riktor 0.75 seconds of invincibility when cast. This can allow him to slip under towers or other dangerous areas to take down enemies without high risk to himself.
  • Stacking Abilities – Each of Riktor’s basic abilities can be used twice in quick succession. Jungle Strike is immediately refreshed from cooldown if it strikes an enemy and Retaliate can be stored two times. This gives him a lot more options in fights than most other heroes.

Weaknesses

  • Limited Range – Riktor is a very melee focused hero, having only Jungle Strike to help him approach distant enemies. Players will have to be crafty with ranged enemies to avoid being kited.
  • Position dependant – If caught away from brush or the river, Riktor will not be able to properly utilize all of his potential. Players will need to primarily move through the jungle so that at least one additional option is readily available.

Hero Basic Strategy

Laning Strategy

  • Riktor is best suited to the Slayer lane. His dueling potential and strong lane presence make him a terrifying foe to square up against.
  • Harass the opponent often, using Jungle Strike to offset their damage and ensure that you always come out on top in trades.

Leveling Progression

  • Always start with Jungle Strike. It scales better throughout the game and is a much more reliable source of damage.
  • While very useful, Retaliate should be the lowest priority when leveling.
  • As with most heroes, take ranks in his ultimate whenever possible.

Battle Strategy

  • Solo Battle: Sweep in with Jungle Strike for some quick damage and a knock up if you are attuned to the bushes. Immediately follow with an enhanced normal attack and Retaliate to block the enemy’s immediate retaliation as well as deal a bit of additonal damage. Follow this all up with Mark of the Hunter to deal continual damage and mark the target. If they try to flee, follow them with an additional cast of Jungle Strike to stick close. Mitigate any crowd control they might try to hit you with another cast of Retaliate.
  • Team Battle: Find a target and stick to them. Riktor isn’t necessarily weak in team fights, but fairs better in duels. Block large amounts of damage with Retaliate should you get focused, spreading the counter attack around the opponents. Try to find a squishy target to burst down, using Jungle Strike to pierce the enemy lines and stay close to your mark.
  • Escaping Battle: Riktor is a bit lacking when it comes to escapes. Use Jungle Strike to dash away, hitting a minion or monster if possible. This will allow you to dash away a second time. Use Retaliate to block incoming damage for further safety.

Abilities

Arena of Valor Riktorr Passive Battle Instinct – Passive – Riktor adapts to the environment and gains a buff after staying on a type of terrain for 1.5 seconds. His movement speed also increases slightly when moving from one terrain to another.

Brush: Increases attack speed by 15%.
Riverbed: Increases movement speed by 15%.
Road: Gains 15% additional damage reduction.

  • Moving to a new terrain will restart the changing timer without switching states. Move between terrains before the timer is up whenever you don’t want to lose your current state.
Arena of Valor Riktor Ability 1 Jungle Strike – Riktor charges forward, dealing 50/70/90/110/130/1150 (+0.5 AD) physical damage, then swings his sword and deals 100/140/180/220/240/280(+1.0 AD) physical damage. He will also charge forward during the next normal attack and deal an additional 10/35/60/85/110/135 magic damage. The cooldown is reset fully if Riktor hits a target (but only triggered once every 4 seconds.) If Riktor has the bush buff, the enemy is knocked into the air. If Riktor has the riverbed buff, the charging distance is increased.
  • Always aim to hit enemy heroes at the edge of the ability’s range, or you’ll lose out on the second damage source. A successful hit on the edge will triple the dash damage.
  • Use the speed boost right after changing to a grass state to quickly approach the enemy before knocking them into the air.
  • Don’t spam the ability right when the cooldown refreshes without thinking. Saving a cast of the ability will help prevent enemies from escaping with movement abilities.
  • Be sure to attack between casts if using the ability twice in quick succession. This is to take full advantage of the additional damage it provides and maximise your damage output.
Arena of Valor Riktor Ability 2 Retaliate– Riktor raises his sword into a defensive stance, blocking all damage for 0.75 seconds. After blocking, he counter attacks, dealing 200/245/290/335/380/425 (+1.0 AD) physical damage to nearby enemies. Can be stored up to 2 times. If the ability is used to block a control ability, the counterattack stuns foes for 1 second. When on land, Riktor does 225/275/327/375/425/475 (+1.0 AD) physical damage.
  • This is a fantastic tool when trading. Use it to block large projectiles like abilities or turret fire to really get ahead of your opponent.
  • Try to avoid spamming the ability too frequently to avoid losing all of your charges before you need it for defensive use.
  • Because you can only prevent control effects and can’t remove them, predicting when your opponent will use control effects is vital.
Arena of Valor Riktor Ultimate Mark of the Hunter – Riktor applies a hunting mark to a nearby enemy and creates a field around him which deals 36/58/80 (+0.1 AD) physical damage to nearby units. The mark explodes after being damaged five times, dealing 300/500/700 (+1.0 AD) and is silenced for 1 seconds.
  • Be sure that your desired target is in range when you cast. The ability can still be activated when no targets are in range.

How to Counter Riktor

  • Try and force Riktor to fight away from the brush or the river. His options are much more limited when he is stuck with a single terrain type.
  • Try to attack from a distance. Riktor is vulnerable when unable to get close and be kited down to death.

More Riktor Item Builds

Hero Arcana

  • Riktor benefits most from typical warrior arcana, so sets of Onslaught, Assassinate, and Skewer are good choices for him.
  • Riktor can also benefit from tank arcana, so sets of Indomitable, Benevolent, and Valiance can be work on him as well.

Hero Counters

Arena of Valor Tank Tank

While able to deal with tanks, Riktor should generally avoid them. He will have to use each of his abilities multiple times to have a chance of knocking one down which leaves him vulnerable to other attackers. Focus on picking off squishier foes instead.

Arena of Valor Warrior Warrior

Riktor will be facing off with warriors most commonly, they usually up with him in the Slayer lane. He can use Retaliate to offset some of their damage and get ahead in trades. They should be dealt with in team fights when snowballing, but still are generally less important than mages and marksmen.

Arena of Valor Assassin Assassin

If he can time Retaliate well, Riktor can almost completely evade an assassin’s burst. Doing so leaves the assassin helpless and unable to resist Riktor’s retaliatory damage, so he shouldn’t often have much trouble with them.

Arena of Valor Mage Mage

Similar to with assassins, Riktor can use Retaliate to block a mage’s burst. Jungle Strike will allow for an easy approach, leaving most mages open and vulnerable to following attacks. Assassins should be dealt with quickly to prevent your allied damage dealers from having to deal with them.

Arena of Valor Marksman Marksman

The top of the list when it comes to targets, and Riktor can take care of marksmen rather easily. Jungle Strike will keep them in range and Retaliate will prevent them from getting a lead in damage. Marksmen are generally rather squishy and thereby won’t be able to resist Riktor’s damage for long. Be sure to always save a cast of Jungle Strike as to not get stuck out of range and kited.

Arena of Valor Support Support

Take out support if you ever find them out alone, as they will generally be an easy target. That said, they should be avoided in team fights as the control they provide can leave you open to enemy attacks. That said, timing Retaliate to block crowd control will provide a nice stun to the follow up damage, so try and use any attempts to lock you down to your advantage.

    • Hmm.. I think it’s just the most balanced, if not the best, build ’till now.

He is very dangerous assassin with this build, yet he’s tanky enough if he has to disengage from battle. Mantle of Ra, Medallion of Troy, and Gilded Greaves provides enough defense for Riktor.

      • I just played him first time. I’m only lvl 21 and my arcana is mainly lvl 2s and not tailored, but he is definitely a beast. I believe a bruiser would be very efficient. Your main set up of boots (I prefer the armor ones) and the mantra/troy combo is very strong. Would going lifesteal be a bad decision for the remaining items? Or will he lack in damage and fall off?
