Arena of Valor Finally on Nintendo Switch? EU Server Closed Beta Applications Open
Tencent made another splash before the end of the year by announcing EU closed beta applications for the Arena of Valor (AoV) Nintendo Switch port. This port move for Nintendo Switch is the first of its kind in the gaming industry: never before has a game in the MOBA genre been available on a console system. The move may create more market opportunities for mobile app games or brands to be playable on portable consoles in the future.
Controls and UI Analysis
One look at the image makes it obvious to Arena of Valor players how drastically different the controls and user interface will be on the Switch. Because the Switch already has a left joystick, the virtual on-screen joystick has been removed, clearing up space and allowing for the Shop and hero attributes table to be placed there. Abilities have been moved from the bottom right to the bottom of the screen, presumably because players will use Switch’s built-in buttons instead. The bottom right thus becomes a perfect place for the mini-map: Switch players can easily use their right thumbs rather than clumsily reaching over the screen to the left side on mobile. Finally, because so many buttons and features have been moved to the bottom, the scoreboard and hero statuses on the top are refreshingly large, spaced-out, and easy to see.
Arena of Valor Player Experience Survey
Aspiring Nintendo Switch beta players first need to complete Arena of Valor’s survey. The purpose of the survey is to get to know their players more as well as gather information about players’ Arena of Valor experiences and opinions. Once you are finished with the survey, you will be prompted to enter your email address. Unfortunately, those completing the survey in a country outside of Europe will not be able to register their email address (we are still checking on updates regarding this concern).
