Passive Ability Effect
Arena of Valor Quillen AmbushAmbush Attacks made behind the enemy have a 100% chance to strike critically, and none of the attacks made in front of the enemy will be critical strikes. Quillen has a base critical damage of 125%, with an additional 0.5% for every 1% he gains. The highest amount of damage dealt to non-heroes is capped at 1,500.
Ability Mechanics

  • To clarify, Quillen’s base critical strikes deal 1.25x the damage of a normal strike, not 2.25.
  • Buying Claves Sancti will add 12.5% critical damage due to its critical chance and 50% critical damage due to its other unique passive, for a total of 62.5% additional crit damage
  • Getting more than 100% critical chance will continue to increase Quillen’s critical damage
  • Not listed: every fourth attack, Quillen lunges forward

Ability Mechanics

  • Range: 400 units
  • Quillen can move while using Mutilate
  • Mutilate can critically strike
  • The AD multiplier appears to be based on additional AD, rather than total AD (it is listed as simply “AD” in the game)
    • The full value is multiplied during a critical strike
  • Mutilate gains the benefits of an auto-attack without the downsides:
    • It is not affected by items like Sonic Boots
    • Elemental Power (Omni Arms, Frost Cape) is activated by Mutilate. In fact, Mutilate is considered an ability and an attack (like an empowered auto-attack), so it activates itself on the first strike
    • Additional damage (like that from Fafnir’s Talon) is applied to Mutilate strikes (note: Blitz Blade’s Chain Lightning will proc but Mutilate strikes will not reduce the cooldown)
    • Life steal applies to Mutilate (life steal only applies to auto attacks)
    • Mutilate will not trigger Devil’s Handshake’s passive
    • Attack speed will not make Mutilate strike faster (unlike Omega‘s Guardian Mode, for instance)
  • Mutilate can be “animation-canceled” by other abilities and attacks, though the second strike will still go through
    • Quillen cannot change the direction he’s facing when using Mutilate, so using Decimate or Assassinate during Mutilate’s animation will always make Quillen dash in the direction he’s attacking
  • Though the indicator of Mutilate is a circle, Quillen will only attack in the direction he’s facing, so if enemies are in the “circle” but he’s not facing them when attacking, he will not damage them
    • Quillen cannot aim Mutilate (unlike other auto-aim abilities like Veera‘s Mesmerize which can be aimed if held down), so adjust the targeting settings to maximize efficiency
      • Mutilate’s targeting prioritizes heroes
  • Once Mutilate’s first strike connects with an enemy, the second strike will always connect as well, even if Quillen is comically far away by that point

Quillen moves in the target direction rapidly and attacks a nearby enemy after reaching his destination, dealing 350/390/430/470/510/550 (+1.0 [additional] AD) physical damage and marking the target for 10 seconds. Each time Quillen attacks the marked target, the target’s movement speed is reduced by 50% for one second and the cooldown for Decimate is reduced by 1 second. Quillen also takes 30% reduced damage from the marked target. Only one target can be marked at any given time.

  • Indicator range: 350 units. Effective range: 600 units.
  • The AD portion of Decimate also appears to be based on additional AD rather than total AD
  • Decimate can critically strike
    • The full value is multiplied during a critical strike
    • Whether or not a critical strike lands is based on where Quillen finishes Decimate, not where he starts it
  • Both attacks from Mutilate contribute to the cooldown reduction
  • Decimate can pass through walls
  • Decimate can only damage one target, even if Quillen passes through multiple enemies
    • Though Decimate prioritizes heroes, it appears to prioritize whichever enemy is closest at the START of the dash rather than the END (a different mechanic from how critical hits are determined)

Physical Damage
Quillen enters stealth after a short charging time. While in stealth, he gains 40% movement speed and recovers 100/150/200 (+0.25 [additional] AD) HP every 0.5 seconds for 3 seconds. When he launches an attack, he comes out of stealth and gains 150/175/200 attack damage and 30% movement speed for 1 second when he damages an enemy target. Passive: Refreshes cooldowns of all abilities when killing a hero or completing an assist.

Ability Mechanics

  • The ability description is somewhat confusingly written. “When Quillen attacks, he comes out of stealth and gains 150/175/200 attack damage for 3 seconds. During those 3 seconds, Quillen gains 30% movement speed for 1 second whenever he damages an enemy” is a bit clearer.
  • Quillen flips forward about 400 units (just past the indicator) when he begins Assassinate
    • The flip can go over walls
  • Enemies can see a glimmer when Quillen enters stealth
  • Quillen’s first attack after coming out of stealth will not benefit from the increased attack damage (if using Mutilate, the second attack will benefit from the increased damage)
  • The additional healing once again appears to be based on additional AD rather than total AD
    • Quillen will stop healing once he attacks, but will continue to heal if he is only damaged

In-Game Tool Tip

Pay attention to where the enemy is facing, because Quillen is deadly from behind. When necessary, use Decimate to move behind the enemy.
