Arena of Valor (AoV) - Server Differences

An overview of the differences between Arena of Valor servers with a focus on hero availability and acquisition differences.

Overview

Despite the rollout of update 11 to all game servers which brought most of the servers closer together in terms of similarity, there are still a few differences that players may notice between regions. Many of these differences are relatively minor, such as the hero named Peura on Tencent versions of the game being named Payna on Garena versions. The most notable regard the heroes and skins within the game.

Availability of Heroes and Skins

The most noticeable difference between the different regions is the availability of heroes. Having come to different areas of the globe at different times, some servers have had more time to gain a larger base of heroes than others.

There are multiple reasons as to why all heroes wouldn’t be available from the start. A staggered release of heroes allows players to adjust to them slowly rather than overwhelming by volume. The pool to draw from also ensures a steady stream of new content over the first several weeks of launch. This keeps interest high during the critically important first few weeks of the game’s release. Skins have similar differences, though several absent for a different reason. Some skins are tied to events or holidays. These wouldn’t have as much appeal to players if they were released outside of their related events.

Prices and Acquisition

Servers don’t only offer different heroes, but different ways in which they are obtained as well as different prices.

Players can obtain most heroes by using gold, a currency given to them after every match. Heroes cost between 1000 – 20000 gold, common prices being 2888, 5888, 13888, and 18888 gold each. Heroes usually will have a higher price when they are first introduced to a server. Other factors that help determine a hero’s price are things like how easy the hero is for newer players to pick up.

These ideas don’t completely dictate heroes’ prices, they differing in different ways across servers. An example of this can be seen below, the hero Alice costing 2888 on the NA and EU servers, 13888 on the Taiwan server, and 18888 on the SEA server. Players can additionally purchase a few heroes using gems on the EU and SEA servers.

The method of obtaining heroes can also vary across servers. EU, NA, and SEA servers benefit from a “Road to Glory” system which awards new players with a hero every time they complete three matches in a single day. The heroes available in Road to Glory differ in some regions, however. Furthermore, the EU and NA Roads offer fourteen heroes while SEA offers eight. In addition, the North America and Taiwan servers offer a few heroes through a log-in bonus as well. Finally, South East Asian players gain a few heroes as a reward for winning with friends.
