Avery is a rival trainer encountered in The Isle of Armor expansion of Pokemon Sword and Shield. He dresses and carries himself in a dignified manner, though he can also come off as being very proud, especially against fellow trainers. Avery favors Psychic type Pokemon.

Avery’s counterpart in Pokemon Sword is Klara. Both rival trainers dream of proving themselves worthy of having their own Pokemon gym someday.

Recommended Pokemon

Here are the suggested Pokemon to use against Avery’s team:

• Dark: Thievul, Morgrem, Obstagoon
• Ghost: Froslass, Golurk, Dusknoir, Gengar, Gourgeist, Chandelure, Shedninja

Avery Isle of Armor Battle (Pokemon Shield)

• Abra♂ (Lv. 10/Lv. 58) and Galarian Slowpoke♂ (Lv. 12/Lv. 60)

Your first battle against Avery will commence at the front of The Isle of Armor station. Avery starts with his Abra which is a pure Psychic type so send out a Pokemon that can capitalize on its weaknesses. Then, Avery will call out his Galarian Slowpoke which is another pure Psychic type so continue using a Dark type or Ghost type Pokemon.
