Pokemon Sword and Shield - Egg Hatching Tips

Details on egg hatching in Pokemon Sword and Shield. Included are an overview and tips on how to hatch eggs efficiently.

Overview

Breeding is a common practice in Pokemon games in order to obtain unique Pokemon with the desired nature, stats, and to some extent egg moves. However, breeding Pokemon efficiently requires some investment on time and may require attention to get the desired Pokemon. The method consists of hatching multiple eggs until the desired Pokemon appears. Luckily, players can do a few adjustments to make mass hatching of eggs a breeze.

Use a Pokemon with the ability Flame Body

Carkol is quite common in the Galar Mines which you’ll enter early on to reach Turrfield. Other Pokemon that have the ability include Litwick and its evolutions.

Head to the Wild Area

Previously in Sun and Moon, hatching can be done easily by entering the spot surrounded by fences. In Sword and Shield, trainers can replicate this process by cycling in a circle. To do this, trainers can head to the wild area. Once there, move to a spot away from grass patches or wild Pokemon in the overworld. We recommend the Bridge Field spot near the nursery. Hold both the analog sticks to the left or right to move your character in a loop. Dashing with the Rotom Bike is not recommended because it breaks the loop.

In addition there have been reports of using a rubber band to hold down the analog sticks in place. The method involves setting the horizontal camera in the options menu to be inverted. Finalize by wrapping the two analog sticks together so that they face inwards. With this step, players can leave their switch idle and come back to find that the egg is ready to hatch.
