Pokemon Sword and Shield - Test Your Mettle in the February International Challenge

Details in the upcoming February International Challenge in Pokemon Sword and Shield. Included are an overview, rules, and registration details.

Overview

Go head-to-head with the best of the best in the upcoming February Online tournament. The tournament, which follows the 2020 Pokemon Video Game Championships series rules, serves to test your capabilities as a trainer. To top it off, the first International Challenge to use the 2020 rules is giving out Championship Points (CP) to the top-performing players! For those not in the loop, championship Points are points that can potentially land you an invitation to the highly-coveted international competitive scene, the Pokemon World Championships. In addition, all players who take part in at least one battle will score an exclusive Ball Guy t-shirt!

Rules

The 2020 series rules makes use of a double battle format. Double battles series requires players to send out two Pokemon at once. With the exception of legendary Pokemon, the Pokemon eligible for the tournament consist of those that are registered in the Galar region which includes Pokemon that are capable of using Gigantamax.

Players can also bring some of the already released Gigantamax forms which now includes the elusive G-Max Charizard with its hidden ability, Solar Power. Below is a list of usable G-Max forms:

  • Charizard
  • Butterfree
  • Pikachu
  • Meowth
  • Eevee
  • Snorlax
  • Corviknight
  • Drednaw
  • Sandaconda
  • Centiskorch

Registration details

Think you have what it takes to be the ultimate trainer? Tournament registration starts from February 19, 2020, 10 pm and runs until the 27th at 3:59 pm PST.

Prior to the tournament, players need to do some preparation to get started on earning CP. The process involves having players link their Trainer Club account to their Nintendo account on the official website.

According to the official website, the steps to link accounts are the following:

  1. Head to the Pokemon website and login with your Pokemon Trainer Club account.
  2. Check the sidebar and click Nintendo Account Link.
  3. Read the information on how to link the accounts.
  4. If you agree, click the link to Nintendo Account button.
  5. Log in and fill up the details to assign your birth date. The birth date should match between the two accounts.
  6. After completing, you’ll be redirected to the home page which signifies that the link was successful.
