How to Farm Renown Points

Renown are additional reward points obtain through accomplishing quests and battles in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. These points obtained are often exchanged for stat and instruction boosts at the cathedral’s Saint Statues or for rare weapons or accessories at Abyss’ Pagan Altar. Furthermore, these reward points can also be used to quickly upgrade Byleth’s skill and support levels with other playable characters in New Game+.

Apart from getting weapons and accessories, the Pagan Altar can also be used to help Byleth acquire additional renown points by offering storehouse in-game items. Through this guide, we will teach you which items you should purchase from traveling merchants in order to offer those for more renown.

Unlock the Pagan Altar

To be able to gain access to the Pagan Altar, finish at least Chapter 1 of the Cindered Shadows DLC Side Story first. Once finished, the Abyss will become available in the main game.

Visit the Influencer in Abyss and offer renown to unlock the Pagan Altar’s exchange features in the main story. The renown required is 5,000 points.

Unlock the Southern Merchant

Among all the storehouse items that can be exchanged, the Southern merchant’s herb seeds are the best items that can be offered in exchange for renown.

The unlock the Southern Merchant, accomplish the quest battle, “Clearing the Way”, in Chapter 5: Tower of Black Winds.

List of Quests

Buy 1-Star and 2-Star Herb Seeds

After unlocking the Southern Merchant, purchase all grade 1 and grade 2 herb seeds from his shop.

Make sure that you have at least 50,000 gold to spend to buy all the necessary herb seeds. You can store up to 99 pieces of herb seeds per variant.

The herb seeds that you can buy in particular are:

  • Mixed Herb Seeds
  • Root Vegetable Seeds
  • Western Fodlan Seeds
  • Eastern Fodlan Seeds
  • Southern Fodlan Seeds
  • Northern Fodlan Seeds

Visit the Pagan Altar and Choose Offer Item

Once you’ve bought all of the herb seeds, go to Abyss and visit the Pagan Altar.

Choose the Offer Item option and pick the herb seeds from your storehouse.

Submit all the grade 1 and grade 2 herb seeds at max and see the additional renown points you receive.

By offering all of the herb seeds, you can obtain up to 4,000 renown points per turn-in. You can repeat this process until you no longer have gold to purchase herb seeds in the marketplace.

  1. this is somewhat a glitch, but it was found if you spend 65,536 renown or more at 1 time, the renown cost is rolled back to 0, so buying 94 silver Gauntlet+ only cost about 246 renown, which you can then sell, to easily make money and then sell

    • with the articles seed farming tip, you can get 4,500 renown every 55,000 gold.
      To reach the renown to start the exploit,(65,536) without dlc, and new game gifts, you’d need about 800,000 gold. this is a lot, if your playing on normal mode you can do this over an hour/2 of grinding. But once you do get that threshold, you can be buying 94 silver gauntlets+ for 240 renown, and selling them for 60,000 gold each stack, then buying seeds for 55,000 getting 4,500 more renown, and begin the cycle
