To War at Gronder Strategy
1) Familiar battlefield
Claude Story Route: The battlefield is the same as the one where you fought the other two houses during the Battle of the Eagle and Lion. However, Edelgard’s army to the left is much more dominant here due to its increased size and two demonic beasts.
While the goal of the previous battle is to get the ballista, the focus is here is to get away from the fight at the center of the map. Let Dimitri’s forces finish off Edelgard’s units in the center and lower sections of the map while your units travel to the west. Eliminate the units there and slowly move to the south to get to Edelgard.
Be wary of the demonic beasts that might follow you on the path. Ready your tanky units and heavy hitters against these beasts, and quickly reach Edelgard using your flying units. Once Edelgard is eliminated, it is time to get to the center and defeat Dimitri’s army and the remainder of Edelgard’s forces.
Most of Dimitri’s units are weak to heavy melee strikes and magic. Bombard them with these attacks to gain the upper hand.
If ever you want to take the ballista from the Black Eagles at the start of the battle, be wary of Sylvain and Ingrid who will appear to the north and east after a few turns. After occupying the ballista, there is a chance that Edelgard will set it on fire, which will stop your units from moving for one turn. The flames can also deal damage each turn.
