DLC Chapter 1 Storyline Walkthrough

Cindered Shadows DLC Mission Battle 1: A Skirmish in Abyss

When the battle starts, focus on the group of enemies led by Balthus. You can use the special Avo tiles to gain increased evasion against him. Have Edelgard and Dimitri lead the charge, while Claude and other ranged units pepper enemies from the back lines. Byleth should be used as a finisher on the Ashen Wolves students.

Note that you can position ranged units near walls to hit melee units on the other side. Be sure to move as a group as you will be ambushed in corners. Have Byleth ready to pick off ambushers by having him reasonably close to ranged units as much as possible.

After taking care of Balthus and his squad, head southeast as a group and approach Hapi. Have Dimitri up front with Byleth and Edelgard close behind as you approach the Giant Crawler near the corner. Let Dimitri Initiate the attack with follow ups from Edelgard and Byleth. Stack even more damage on it with ranged attacks.

After taking out the Giant Crawler, have Claude and Ashe snipe Hapi through the wall. It is suggested to have Claude attack first as has a chance to attack twice.

Move to the eastern corner and start moving north with Dimitri and Edelgard to meet the armored enemies. Put Byleth in the center of your group as you go along to finish off weakened enemies. Proceed north in this formation and clear out the enemies along the way.

To take out Constance’s squad, have her fliers come to you with Edelgard and Dimitri up front. Take them out as they charge at you and gradually occupy the Avo tiles as you position your team near Constance’s formations. When you take out Constance’s minions, she will recklessly come to you. It is recommended to have Byleth within her attack range while Byleth is on an Avo tile to lure Constance. With the Sword of the Creator equipped, Constance should be defeated easily.

Yuri and his squad will make their advance even as you start to deal with Constance herself. Use the chokepoint to your advantage and use Edelgard’s battalion gambit (Blaze) to damage Yuri and his forces while they are clumped together.

From this point on, Yuri will likely not be able to move because of the effects of Blaze. You can burst him down with Byleth and your ranged units. For more experience, have your ranged units take out enemy units that have not been affected with Blaze. Afterwards, focus all damage on the remaining units and Yuri to end the battle.
