The final battle requires a lot of patience and caution as the boss has high health in addition to having minions that can heal it. Prepare for the mission by replenishing the endurance of all battalions, purchase silver weapons for all units, and buy concoctions.
When the battle begins, have Ashe use Retribution gambit on all units to allow all them to perform counterattacks outside their normal attack ranges. This will help you kill the boss’ minions who attack from a distance. The phantoms also drop concoctions which will be useful throughout during the battle.
The boss will summon three phantoms of Aelfric which have access to fire magic and can absorb their health to heal itself. Have Hilda engage the phantoms up close to take them out. If they manage to survive the attacks, finish them off with Hapi, Constance, or Ashe. Linhardt should take focus on healing allies during this fight, though he can also use wind spells to attack the phantoms.
Use Dimitri, Byleth, Edelgard, Balthus, and Claude to deal with the boss. Move as a group but have Edelgard initiate the attack using Blaze on the boss to damage as much sections of its armor as possible. Afterwards, position Yuri behind the boss (particularly on the opposite tile to where Edelgard is) and have him use another Blaze gambit.
Dimitri should then move toward the boss to use Assault troop gambit. Try to position him so that his gambit hits as many of the boss’ tiles vertically. Follow up with Balthus Mad Melee gambit to strike at the armor once more but horizontally. Claude should then use Assembly gambit to stack even more damage on the boss’ armor vertically. Finally, have Byleth use Assault Troop while Hilda uses Onslaught to break any remaining sections of armor.
Note that the boss will summon phantoms again at the end of its turn. Take care of them first with Hilda, Hapi, Constance, and Ashe. Afterwards, bombard the boss with combat arts. First, have Edelgard, Dimitri, and Claude use Monster Breaker, Monster Piercer, and Monster Blast respectively. Byleth should attack with Bane of Monsters or Ruptured Heaven.
The entire battle revolves around managing the phantom minions with as little moves as possible to be able to direct as much damage on the boss as you can during your turns. Yuri should serve as an emergency escape with Foul Play for low HP units who are caught in the range of the boss’ attacks. Do not hesitate to use Divine Pulse during this fight to change tactics. This battle should be approached in a slow and systematic way to clear it.
Clearing the final mission unlocks the features below.
- All four Ashen Wolves students can be recruited in the main story.
- Abyssian Exam Passes can be obtained after recruiting an Ashen Wolves student (found in their inventory). This allows your units to change into the Trickster, Dark Flier, War Monk, War Cleric, and Valkyrie classes.
- Free exploration of the Abyss and its facilities in the main story. Can be accessed by talking to the Shifty Merchant (found beside Byleth’s personal quarters).
- Additional quests and support conversations
<<Chapter 6: Return to Me | Main Story Walkthroughs >> |
The final boss of Cindered Shadows was barely what I call unique, It was just a stronger, somewhat more gimmicky version of the final boss of the main story’s Silver Snow route. Then again, I aced it on normal/casual.
Try the campaign on Hard/Classic if you’re up for a challenge. It’s a whole new experience.
dude you play on casual.
