Wave 4’s Cindered Shadows DLC Side Story Releasing this February 13th, 2020
Nintendo announced a new downloadable content featuring a new side story for Fire Emblem: Three Houses called “Cinder Shadows”. This DLC is part of the game’s Wave 4 Expansion Pass and it includes four new characters and new classes.
The Abyss, a Hidden Town Beneath Garreg Mach
The side story begins when Byleth, the three house student leaders, and a few students step in a secret basement following a suspicious figure at the academy.
Then, the class ends up at the Abyss that serves as a home for vulnerable people called Abyssians. After hearing that the town is threatened by unknown figures, Byleth and his/her students decide to help them.
It seems the Church of Seiros knows the existence of this hidden town since there was a monk who talked about them pre-time skip. Also, you can see a monument of Saint Seiros placed in the town as well as chapels. However, it was not explained as to why Garreg Mach has a path leading to the secret town.

The Ashen Wolves, the Secret Fourth House
The Abyss “houses” the secret fourth house that Byleth will join forces with called the Ashen Wolves. Currently, there are four unique students under this house and they consider themselves as rejects from society.
These four students are Constance, Balthus, Yuri, and Hapi. Based on data-mine information, these students appeared to be recruitable and each student has a new class not yet available in the current game.
Constance
Constance is a female character and data-mined information reveals that she’s from House Nuvelle in the Adrestia Empire. Also, she’s a major bearer of the Noa crest.
Based on the trailer, she appears to be a magic-user. Unlike other mage classes, her class allows her to be mounted on a pegasus. This class is reminiscent of the Dark Flier class introduced in Fire Emblem: Awakening.
Balthus
Balthus is a male character and we can see that he uses Gauntlets in battle. According to the data-mined information, he’s the major crest bearer of Chevalier.
In addition, it is revealed that he’s using a hero’s relic called Vajra-Mushti in battle. His class resembles a War Monk class that originated from Fire Emblem Awakening.
Yuri
Yuri is another male character of the Ashen Wolves. Based on his attire, we can infer that he is the leader of the group. Data-mined information shows that he is a major bearer of the Aubin crest and he has his own hero’s relic which is a ring.
Yuri can be seen as an agile character while using a sword from the trailer. His class design is reminiscent of the Trickster class also introduced in Fire Emblem: Awakening.
Hapi
The second female character is Hapi and she’s another magic-user. Unlike Constance, Hapi is mounted on a horse.
Data-mined information indicates that her class is locked to female characters. Her class may resemble the Valkryie class that debut on Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade.
