Guide on Garreg Mach Monastery’s Sauna

The Sauna is a new feature added through Fire Emblem: Three Houses’ Expansion Pass Wave 3 DLC. It is a facility that gives Byleth and his/her chosen partner boosts in tutoring, faculty training, and advanced drills.

The availability of the boosts to be received by Byleth and his/her partner will depend on the usage of Sauna. However, both parties will still receive additional support level points regardless of the outcome.

How to Unlock the Sauna

Pre-Time Skip

When playing the game pre-time skip, Byleth must accomplish a quest called “Sauna Time” in order to unlock the academy’s Sauna. The quest is given by a soldier in Garreg Mach Monastery and requires the player to visit the Sauna and use its services.

The sauna is located between Byleth’s personal quarters and the academy’s training grounds. Approach the “Sauna Boss”, a Grappler NPC,  to access the facility.

Byleth can choose one ally from his/her unit pool to go with him/her at the sauna. It could be between his/her ally students, knights, or church staff. After using the facility, Byleth will acquire Poultry x3, Wild Game x3, and 700 Renown points.

Post-Time Skip

In post-time skip, there is no longer a quest required to access the facility. Just go directly to the Sauna and use its services.

How to Use the Sauna

First things first, save your game by using the Sauna. As of writing, how much the temperature gauge goes up appears to be randomized.

One activity point is consumed when using the sauna. However, you can still use the facility multiple times until you run out of activity points in a day. Remember, that you can no longer invite your previous partner in the sauna again for the whole month.

Your goal in the sauna is to fill up the temperature gauge of each character. However, it should not exceed the black line for each of them.

You are limited to five action points in order to reach the black line. Choose between the two options: “Increase Steam” and “Stay Longer”.

• Increase Steam – Add water to the stories to increase the amount of steam, warming up everyone in the room a lot.
• Stay Longer – Stay in the sauna and grow warmer.

You have the option not to spend all action points in the sauna but you should at least have one character (either Byleth or his/her partner) “refreshed” before leaving. You will know when a character is “refreshed” when they are glowing inside the sauna. However, it is still better to have both characters “refreshed” so that you can maximize the bonuses for each character in-game

Tips on Using the Sauna

1) Use “Increase Steam” at the Start.

We suggest increasing the steam twice for the temperature gauge to build up until the middle. If Byleth and his/her partner are still less than halfway through, you can either increase the steam again for the third time or opt for staying longer once.

If the effect “Stay Longer” is small, you can choose to “Increase Steam” on your fourth try. Then, choose “Stay Longer” again the last try. If the attempt doesn’t work, repeat again the sauna event with your chosen character.

2) Use “Stay Longer” to Slowly Build Up the Temperature Gauge.

We believe that increasing the steam at the start of the sauna will increase the effect of “Stay Longer” even more.

If you already have one character that is glowing, you have the option to stay longer so that your other character can catch up on his/her temperature gauge.  Choosing “Stay Longer” as the fifth and last action is much safer than “Increase Steam”.

3) A Partner with High Support Level will Glow Early

According to the Sauna in-game guide, a sauna partner with a high support level with Byleth will result in an earlier glow.

If you observe that both characters are already glowing, leave the sauna immediately.

Sauna Usage Rewards

Using the services of the Garreg Mach Monastery’s sauna will help in boosting a unit’s skill levels quickly. Especially when building up skill levels for classes that have mixed physical and magical proficiencies required such as the War Cleric or War Monk class.

Again, here is a breakdown of the possible results:

• If only one character is refreshed, that character will gain +2 in tutoring, faculty training, advanced drill for the rest of the month.
• If only both characters are refreshed, both characters will gain +4 in tutoring, faculty training, advanced drill for the rest of the month.

If you look closely at Female Byleth, she will receive an additional +4  skill boost in her Advanced Drill with Dorothea. Likewise, Dorothea will receive an additional +4 boost in her instruction (across all proficiencies) from Female Byleth.
