In-Game Hints About the Garreg Mach’s hidden town, Abyss
We still have less than two weeks before the official release of Fire Emblem: Three Houses‘ Cindered Shadow DLC Side Story. To add more to the incoming DLC, we give you a summary of currently revealed information about the side story’s focal area called Abyss.
Information about the hidden town can be accessed in-game as early as Chapter 3. For those who paid for the game’s expansion pass, an additional quest given by your lord student will provide you more clues about it.
Abyss is an Undeground “Paradise”
One of the hints we learned about the Abyss is that it is considered as a “paradise”.
At the start of Chapter 3, look for the “Shifty Merchant” NPC in-game. The NPC is located at a narrow corner between Byleth’s personal quarters and the academy’s sauna.
When we interact with the Shifty Merchant, we learn that the Abyss is located directly underground of Garreg Mach Monastery. Also, the people who stay in the Abyss considers the Abyss as an “absolute paradise”. Furthermore, the merchant claimed that there are objects that can only be obtained by getting in the hidden town.
Abyss is an “Ancient” Settlement
Another clue about the Abyss is that it is a settlement left with ancient remnants.
By purchasing the game’s expansion, you will gain access to an additional quest (highlighted in blue color) given by your lord student like Edelgard. Byleth is made to do an investigation about the Abyss by talking to the merchants. In particular, talking with the business-savvy merchant Anna.
By spending time with Anna, you will learn that the Abyss is a town sprawling with ancient remains. In addition, the hidden town has settlers with special reasons to stay and appears to be a hub for brave and enterprising merchants. This consistent with the Shifty Merchant’s claim that Abyss is rich with rare items or wares. However, unlike the Shifty Merchant, Anna warns Byleth not to proceed underground.
Abyss is a “Scorned” Society
The last tip we had about the Abyss is that it is a society treated with disdain.
If you talk to the priest NPC stationed on the second floor of Rhea’s chamber, you will be able to hear the Church of Seiros’ possible collective opinion on the existence of the Abyss including its people.
The priest highlighted that the people of the Abyss called Abyssian only exist to cause trouble. Furthermore, he mentioned that Abyss should even be purged.
In Summary
If we put all the clues together, we can presume that the Abyss is seen as a haven for traveling merchants and an inconvenience for the people of Garreg Mach Monastery, possibly the whole Church of Seiros.
