Fire Emblem: Three Houses - Walkthrough and Strategy Guide

Defeating Death Knight

Two Ways to Defeat Death Knight

There are two effective ways to take out Death Knight during the main story without having to thoroughly raise any proficiencies. It is even possible to do this with a team at an average level of 5 to 7 in the beginning of the mission.

If you cannot defeat Death Knight even with these methods, consider raising your characters’ levels on free days.

Method 1: Use gambits and take out Death Knight using knightkneeler

You can damage enemies without the risk of a counterattack by using offensive gambits. You raise your hit rate by using gambit boosts with nearby allies before unleashing the gambit. Death Knight can be finished off using knightkneeler, an effective combat art against mounted units.

The Blue Lions house with Dimitri as the designated Death Knight slayer can execute this method more effectively than other houses.

Method 2: Using combat arts and take out Death Knight using knightkneeler.

Since Death Knight will have an attack speed of 14 when first encountered, you should attack him with units with an attack speed of 11. Whittle down his HP using combat arts before a character with knightkneeler lands the final blow.

This method is recommended for players who chose the Black Eagles house. Characters in this house have high initial speed.

Method 3: A combination of methods 1 and 2

This method is recommended for players who chose the Golden Deer house that features a balanced roster of characters.

Steps

Fire Emblem: Three Houses How to Defeat Death Knight

Method 1

Preparation

1 At least one character should learn the combat art knightkneeler.
2 Train that character so that knightkneeler has about 15 Mt.
3 Purchase a steel lance and equip it on the character who knows knightkneeler.
4 Assign a battalion to the character with knightkneeler.
5 Assign a battalion with offensive gambits to a character with high physical or magic attack
6 Recommended gambits include onslaught, group magic: ice, and assault troop.

Combat

1 Try to rout at least 80% of the enemies.
2 Do not take out the enemy commander to prevent the mission from being cleared. Keep a few enemies alive for RNG adjustment.
3 Gather your allies around Death Knight.
4 A character with a range of two of more should be placed in the second square of Death Knight to activate linkage.
5 The damage you will inflict will still be low, though it is important to reduce the Death Knight’s HP.
6 Increase the damage to be dealt by the character with knightkneeler by using rally or support.
7 Attack the Death Knight with knightkneeler to instantly kill him.
8 If you do not kill Death Knight in one turn, the character that attacked him will likely die.
9 Use divine pulse to redo the attack. Before attempting to kill Death Knight again, attack the remaining enemies to adjust the RNG. Your attack on Death Knight will yield the same result of you do not do this.

Method 2

Preparation

1 Train multiple characters to have at least 11 Spd.
2 It is not required to use steel weapons if you have 10 or more characters.
3 Assign a high damage battalion and attacking knights to characters with at least 11 Spd.
4 Purchase a steel lance and equip it on the character with knightkneeler.
5 Assign a battalion with offensive gambits to the character with knightkneeler.

5 Make maximum use of skills that increase attack power to increase the damage dealt of the character with at least 11 Spd. You can also use support and rally.
6 Use knightkneeler to kill Death Knight in one hit.
7 If you do not kill Death Knight in one turn, the character that attacked him will likely die.
8 Use divine pulse to redo the attack. Before attempting to kill Death Knight again, attack the remaining enemies to adjust the RNG. Your attack on Death Knight will yield the same result of you do not do this.

Method 3

You can try to use a combination of both method 1 and 2 to kill Death Knight. If you chose the Golden Deer, you can take advantage of Leonie and Hilda‘s inherent abilities to increase damage done by your main attacking unit.
