New elements in Persona 5 Royal's combat system were revealed in various trailers and promotional footage.

New Combat Features in Persona 5 Royal

Persona 5 Royal will introduce new characters, persona, events, and features. Among these are some enhancements to the game’s combat system. Footage from various Morgana Report videos revealed additional mechanics such as wire ambush, showtime attacks, and baton passing boosts.

Wire Ambush

Persona 5 Royal - New Combat Mechanics

Players will be able to traverse palaces faster with a new wire-like tool. Akin to a grappling hook, it can also be shot at enemies to ambush them from afar. In the original game, it was only possible to get the drop on foes by sneaking up on them.

Showtime Attacks

Persona 5 Royal - New Combat Mechanics

Two characters can team up to perform special showtime attacks on enemies. They are mostly comical in nature but deal massive damage when used.

It is implied that showtime attacks can be unlocked by triggering certain interactions between characters during the main story.

Futaba All-out Attack

Persona 5 Royal - New Combat Mechanics

Futaba will be able to participate in all-out attacks as well, which was not possible in the original game.

Enhanced Baton Passing

A flame aura will radiate from characters after baton passing. This indicates the level of damage and HP recovery boosts transferred between characters. Red represents level 1, yellow is level 2, and light blue is level 3.

Characters boosted by baton passing will also be able to recover SP.

Inflicting Elemental Damage with Guns

New gun customization options will allow players to deal elemental damage, including technical damage. Doing so will come at the cost of expending the weapon’s ammo cartridge, as suggested in released footage.

Ammo Replenishes After Battle

Persona 5 Royal - New Combat Mechanics

After defeating enemies, the player will regain the ammo they used in the battle.
