Death Arcana Compendium [Persona 5/ P5]

This article contains a guide for the Death Arcana.

Death Arcana (XIII)

The Death Arcana represents foreboding and doom. However, people may also understand it as a deep metamorphosis or drastic change. Thus, the death arcana may not mean “physical” death. But, it may imply a more “emotional” or “spiritual” death that can change your psyche. Despite its dark meaning, this card has played a prominent role in the former Persona games. In fact, this arcana never did exist. Its appearance with a skull and scythe only led people to calling it Death.

In Persona 3, Death became the main theme for it. The one who served as its messenger was Nyx who then sent Thanatos to bring it down on humanity. However, Aigis confronted the Shadow before it caused more problems. But, she had nowhere to put it other than the protagonist of that time.

For Persona 4, it made also a debut as one of the lurkers inside the chest. If you killed it, you would earn Thanatos-themed weapons which would deal heavy damage.

Persona 5 brings back the poster boy Thanatos as a DLC. He comes in both Picaro form and original form. The representative for this arcana is Tae Takemi.

When one follows the Tarot Deck and Death suddenly appears, it means the deck’s nature has changed.

For the longest time, the Death arcana housed persona that excelled in Dark Magic. They specialized in using Mudo-skills that instantly killed any enemy weak to Darkness. Its strongest persona is Alice whose unique skill, “Die for me!” is rather terrifying.
