Guide on SP Usage and Recovery

A party’s SP supply is very essential in accomplishing heists and mission requests. Without it, the Phantom Thieves cannot use skills that can defeat shadows and mini-bosses encountered at cognitive palaces and Mementos.

In this guide. we will breakdown different ways on how to use SP effectively. Also, how to sustain a party’s SP supply as well as increase its gauge. This includes strategies that can be done both in the real word and the metaverse.

How to Optimize SP Consumption

Here are important tips on how to minimize usage of your party members SP while in the metaverse.

1) Make of Use Single-Target Skills

When facing at least two enemies, we suggest using single-target physical or elemental skills.

Multi-target skills costs more than double the SP consumed of Single-target skills. For example, Garu (a single-target light wind skill) consumes 3 SP while Magaru (a multi-target light wind skill) costs  for 8 SP. If your party is facing two shadows sharing the same wind weakness, use Garu twice instead.

2) Prioritize Physical and Gun Attacks over Elemental Attacks

If you party encounters a group of shadows that have Physical and Gun weaknesses, focus on exploiting them. However, check on their persona data if they have passives that can cover those weaknesses.

Using Physical and Gun skills will not cost SP. Physical skills will consume HP instead and so requires healing from time to time. Almost all of enemy personas do not have physical weakness but if you see them having low HP, you can use physical attacks or skills instead to finish them off.

Persona 5 / Persona 5 Royal - Using Gun Attacks

As for Gun skills, they consume bullets but they run out if you don’t have a reserve ammo in stock. If you have more than two enemies with Gun weaknesses, use Panther’s sub-machine gun to spray enemies with bullets.

In Persona 5 Royal, this issue of replenishing ammo is already resolved. You would still run out of ammo if you used them during a battle but they will be replenished in your next battle. This time, the concern would be upgrading you party’s gun weapons to have more ammo.

3) Capitalize on Baton Pass, All-Out Attacks, and Showtime Attacks

These battle mechanics are very helpful for the party since it does not require SP to execute them while facing shadows.

Persona 5 / Persona 5 Royal - Baton Pass Rank 2

Baton Pass is command where you obtain a bonus turn by exploiting an enemy’s weakness or performing critical hits. Instead of spamming skills that targets an enemy’s weakness, you can command a party member to use his/her own elemental skill to also exploit the weakness. This helps in balancing the SP consumption among party members.

Persona 5 / Persona 5 Royal - Penguin Sniper Darts Mini-Game

In Persona 5 Royal, you no longer need to rank up the confidant level of your party members in order to access Baton Pass. They are already innate for each party member and they now have different ranks. The higher the rank, the more damage boost a party member receives together with bonus HP and SP recovery. Increase each member’s rank by playing darts with them in the real world.

Information on Baton Pass Ranks

An All-Out Attack is an optional battle command that can executed when all enemies are knocked down in battle. It is the active party’s finishing move to clear out the remaining enemies in battle. Every All-Out Attack has a victory cutscene and it is unique per party member. The cutscene is dependent on which party member scored the final knock down and initiated the “Hold Up”.

Persona 5 / Persona 5 Royal - Futaba Sakura (Oracle) All-Out Attack Persona 5 / Persona 5 Royal - "Kasumi" Yoshizawa (Violet) All-Out Attack

In Persona 5 Royal,  Oracle can now perform her victory cutscene by hijacking the party’s All-Out Attack. Also, the new party member, “Kasumi”, also has her own victory cutscene and screen.

Persona 5 / Persona 5 Royal - Makoto and Haru Showtime Attack

Showtime Attacks are exclusive to Persona 5 Royal. They are combination attacks between two current members of the Phantom Thieves. These attacks are unlocked at different points of the story between to Phantom Thief members and are considered Almighty attacks. Use to Showtime Attacks to finish off remaining enemies and defeat mini-bosses or bosses.

4) Get Familiar with Status Ailments and Infliction

Status ailments are essential, especially when dealing with enemies with high HP and strong magic resistances. Using these will lessen the consumption of middle and high tier elemental skills.

Persona 5 / Persona 5 Royal - Mot Status Ailment or Status Infliction

Inflict certain status ailments to enemy shadows in order to nullify their capacity to fight back. This gives your party an opportunity to recover and follow-up with a Technical Attack or Damage.

5) Integrate Technical Attacks in your Battle Style

Technical Attacks are strong follow-up attacks performed against enemies afflicted with a status ailment.

Persona 5 / Persona 5 Royal - Mot Technical Attack or Damage

Technical Attacks can be triggered by:

  • Hitting a sleeping or burned target with Wind skills
  • Hitting a frozen or shocked enemy with Physical attacks or skills
  • Hitting a frozen, burned, or shocked enemy with Nuclear / Nuke skills
  • Hitting afflicted targets with mental ailments (Confuse, Fear, Despair, Rage, or Brainwash) with Psychokinesis / Psy skills
  • Hit a sleeping or dizzied target any with any type of attack or skill

Some shadows that are hit with Technical Attacks or Technical Damage will be knocked down. This gives your party an opportunity to follow-up with an All-Out Attack or Showtime Attack.

  1. I have SP adhesive 3 on joker with a persona that already has invigorate 1 (they do stack) and now I am always on full sp.

    • they’re good for palace infiltration but you have so much SP items abundance in royal so unless you farm sp items in mementos, they’re hardly used.

  2. You can get SP items in mementos (P5R only) But the number of SP items will depend on your item allocations to mementos. You sometimes see machines at mementos platform, you get either snuff souls or chewing souls. But they’re very rare and you cant see them unless you see 3rd eye. You can farm for them but they spawn quite rarely.
