New and Updated Features in P5R’s Mementos

Below is a summary of features introduced and improved in Persona 5 Royal’s Mementos. Mementos is a massive dungeon holding multiple shadows and considered as the public’s palace.

Updated Background Music

Persona 5 Royal adds some variety to its music whenever Joker and his party decides to explore Mementos.

A new, untitled theme was introduced whenever the Phantom Thieves explore the different paths of mementos. The former theme, “Mementos,” has been reassigned as background music for the mementos entrance and rest areas. For persona battles, the new song “Take Over” was put in place for standard battles. Persona 5’s “Last Surprise” was moved to be a theme for successful or failed ambush battles. These changes on the battle themes were also applied in palaces.

Changed Visuals

Persona 5 Royal also made subtle changes to its visuals.

The “result” text after a successful battle was now placed at the bottom of the screen as an aesthetic change. The dialogue boxes of persona being negotiated with now have multiple borders to signal the importance of the conversation.

New Acceleration Feature For Mona Bus

Morgana’s “Mona Bus” form now has an acceleration feature.

A new acceleration feature can help to lessen the time it takes to explore as well as increase the player’s ability to escape from shadows. Based on gameplay demos, a pink trail is left behind whenever the Mona Bus is accelerating.

Rare Shadows

Rare Shadows were also announced as additional enemies that appear in Mementos.

It was not confirmed if these rare shadows include the Kyouma persona or the Reaper persona, but their presence can darken tunnels and hide the player’s map.

Star-shaped stamps and incense were added as obtainable items throughout Mementos.

One of the newly revealed missions includes defeating a cognitive being transforming into a Nekomata. Accomplishing these missions help progress some confidant links.

Lastly, Mementos also received new facilities such as star-shaped checkpoints and Jose’s traveling merchant shop.

The checkpoints can be found at dead-ends and platforms in Mementos. Interacting with the checkpoints can give the player star-shaped stamps. Jose’s traveling merchant shop can also be spotted in dead-ends , but make sure to have enough stamps to maximize the facility before approaching.
