As one of the “disruptive and problem students” in his school, Ryuji is normally isolated. His bad behavior causes all sorts of trouble for the teachers. He can also be a bit short-tempered and resorts to violence quickly. He can also be clumsy and overly energetic at times. This results in him accidentally making outbursts of being one of the Phantom Thieves in public. This gave Makoto the clue she needed to identify them as the Phantom Thieves while tailing them. He has no hesitation to directly showing how he feels to people he doesn’t like.
Despite his delinquent behavior, Ryuji is a kind person at heart. He’s still trying to cope with his inability to become an athlete after suffering an injury. Around his close friends, he’s upbeat, friendly, and straightforward.
Ryuji Sakamoto in Persona 5 (2017)
Ryuji Sakamoto is a student of Shujin Academy. He has known Ann Takamaki since middle school, though they are not well acquainted. Despite coming from an abusive household, he soon gets a great opportunity for his future by becoming a track star. However, this earns disdain from the school’s volleyball coach, Suguru Kamoshida. Because of this disdain, the volleyball coach overtrains Ryuji, this culminating with him breaking his leg. As an additional touch, Kamoshida spreads rumors about his household to the whole school. All of this abuse leads Ryuji to punch him. In response, the school disbands the track club and Ryuji is made into a school outcast as a result.
