Upcoming Confidant Features

Persona 5 Royal will have new and updated confidant features. Confidants are characters that the player can forge bonds with to unlock new persona, abilities, and useful services. As one of the game’s key elements, they greatly affect the player’s experience as they progress through the main story.

New Confidants

Kasumi Yoshizawa (Faith Confidant)

Kasumi, a new playable character, was introduced as the new Faith confidant. She is a rhythmic gymnast who transfers to Shujin Academy at the same time as the player character. It was implied in various trailers that her confidant interactions will be unlocked early in the story.

A new tool called the “chain wire” can be acquired by increasing Kasumi’s confidant level. This allows the player to ambush enemies from a distance while exploring mementos and palaces.

Takuto Maruki (Consultant Confidant)

A non-player character featured as the new Consultant confidant, Takuto Maruki is Shujin Academy’s caring student councilor. As with Kasumi, Takuto’s confidant interactions will be accessible near the beginning of the story, based on released footage.

New Confidant Assist Feature

Updated Confidant Features

Goro Akechi Justice Confidant Progression

In the first game, Goro Akechi’s confidant level automatically increases as the player progressed through the story. This is changed in the upcoming version, requiring the player to voluntarily interact with him to raise his confidant levels.

Goro and the player can spend time together in a number of locations, particularly those new to Persona 5 Royal. The Kichijoji jazz bar and the Shinagawa aquarium are among the locations confirmed in official material.

Chihaya Mifune New Fortune Confidant Ability

The fortune teller Chihaya Mifune will have a new confidant ability not found in the original game. Upon reaching rank 8 in the Fortune confidant, the player will unlock her “contraindication” reading. This increases the chance of triggering a fusion alarm, a new mechanic in the Velvet Room.

Confidant Follow-up Calls

The player may receive a follow-up call from a confidant who they have recently spent time with. It is implied that phone conversations will also grant the player more opportunities to further increase confidant levels.
