Real Time Mechanics
In Persona 5, they have a variety of mechanics. While majority of the mechanics are in battle, some of them apply into real life. For those who have played the past Persona games, some of the mechanics should be familiar to you. Otherwise, if you’re starting out, there are some things you have to know before playing Persona 5:
Mechanics
Free Time System
The Free-Time System is a mechanic that allows your character to do almost anything. These things include maxing out your social links. Others may include fixing your equipment or enhancing your parameters. Other times, you can use it to infiltrate the Palaces. However, there is a bit of a catch: you have to manage that properly. While maxing out the social links is good, the palaces also run on limited time unless you want to get the bad ending. Another mechanic you have to consider is that each of these particular mechanics use “time” in the Persona world. This means you can only do one or the other, depending on your choice.
In Persona 5, your last day to accomplish all this is on 12/19.
Human Parameters
In the past Persona games, you have several aspects to your personality. This includes Charm, Courage, and Knowledge. In Persona 5, there are five parameters: guts, charm, knowledge, kindness, and proficiency. Throughout the game, you can enhance these parameters. In doing so, not only do you unlock certain items but also certain paths. Different social links rely on different parameters. For those who are into dating sims, this mechanic is one of your go-to grids to check how far off you are from dating that particular person.
TV Shopping
The TV Shopping only happens every Sunday. On those Sundays, they will have a list of items featured. However, they are only sold on that day. Once you miss your chance, you won’t be getting it for awhile. Thus, it’s good to save up some money and also materials. Sometimes, the TV channels can sell certain items that you can’t get anywhere else.
Persona Negotiation
This is one of the newer features in the Persona games. In Persona 3 and 4, Personas were earned after battle and by choosing a card. For Persona 5 however, the Persona have a conscious awareness. In fact, there are some scenes where this is quite obvious such as Arsene speaking to the Protagonist when he first awakened to his persona. This makes things a little more interesting as it requires you to appeal to the Persona’s personality before you get it to join you.
However do note, you cannot return to the palace once you finish it. So, might as well collect everything while you’re there.
Palace
In Persona 3, you had Tartaros. For Persona 4, you had the TV world. Persona 5 instead has palaces; each of them have their own set of mechanics. However, there are some similar mechanics such as the Awareness Bar and the Save Room mechanic. Others include the usual ambush the Shadow and puzzles. However, certain palaces also only spawn certain persona. This might make it a little harder considering certain persona have certain weaknesses.
