Chalk Dodge Guide for Persona 5 Royal
Avoid the chalk
On set days in a class lecture, your teacher, Mr. Ushimaru, will throw a chalk to force you to listen. There are no options to choose from since it happens spontaneously, but there are two possible outcomes. You can either get hit painfully on the head or skillfully dodge it. The dodge feature relies on RNG. When you face the chalk throw, your chance of avoiding it depends on RNG and the level of your Proficiency social stat.
How to raise Proficiency
Proficiency is a social stat that deals with mechanical skills like crafting resources and fixing items to name a few. Since most of the activities that raise Proficiency don’t provide other social stat gains, you need to invest in this stat early on to unlock more efficient activities like part-time jobs

Why you need to re-roll (Persona 5 Royal)
Re-roll is a way to force events to work in your favor. The method comes in handy in the early phase since you’re in the process of building your Proficiency. In Persona 5 Royal, you earn some social stats for skillfully dodging the chalk which makes it more of a necessity than a luxury compared to the original. You earn Charm +2 for evading the ballistic chalk.

Inaccurate. Wiggle left stick. I dodged the second throw at 5/6.
The 4/16 throw can be dodged.
A friend of mine did it on their first playthrough, much to my surprise since I also thought it was scripted to fail.
I was testing this myself and repeatedly failing, but then I found one person who posted about a hidden timer that determines if Ushimaru notices you on your phone on other days as well. Turns out that hidden timer mechanic overwrites the scripted event, making it possible to dodge the “unavoidable” throw.
Never mind the 4/16 part, was in a stat-less new game plus.
Also the hidden timer was about vanilla P5, don’t know if Royal is different.
Do you have a list of days when the chalk is thrown? Just making sure to save every time its going to happen.
Hi Anon, we’ve updated it! 🙂
im in episode 3 hasnt happed
not entirely sure if it’s rng, I’ve been trying to reset for a chalk dodge in royal for about 30 minutes now, and every time I do, i get hit, i have a decent in proficiency currently, and the guide i’m following on game faq says to reload for chalk dodge, but haven’t been able to get it.
I have had this same issue. been reloading for over an hour now for 5/6, probably on 10+ tries. Thinking I will just give up on it.
