Yusuke’s Persona 5 Royal Character Trailer Highlighted More Slice-of-Life Character Moments
Atlus Japan posted their fourth character trailer yesterday featuring Yusuke Kitagawa. Yusuke is the Phantom Thieves’ fifth member and has the codename Fox. Unlike most of the Phantom Thieves, he is a student of Kosei High School.
More Slice-of-Life Character Moments
There were more cutscenes showcasing Yusuke’s normal interaction with his fellow Phantom Thieves than in the previous character trailers. At this point, we know that the characters outside the Protagonist can now interact among themselves in separate cutscenes.
During their Hawaii Trip, we saw Yusuke and the Protagonist burying Ryuji Sakamoto under a sand body on the beach.
Then, we saw the trio hanging out at a souvenir shop. Known for his odd taste and logic, Yusuke bought a 3-minute long hourglass to give to Futaba Sakura as a souvenir since it would help her monitor the cooking time of her favorite cup noodles. Also, the character trailer for Kasumi also revealed that she will also show up in this store but will only meet and interact with the Protagonist.
Another character moment was at Cafe LeBlanc with Yusuke asking for coffee, curry, and an after-meal dessert. All characters except for Sojiro Sakura were dressed in their new outfits. This might indicate that the event happened in late December or January.
We then moved to a train station platform with Yusuke and Ann Takamaki conversing with each other. We heard Yusuke 0asking for assistance from Ann with a “cooperation” idea. This particular scenario is similar to Yusuke and Ryuji’s and implies that the party members might be looking for ways to contribute more in battle.
New Tag Team Attack with Panther
Following the train station conversation, we also got to see Yusuke’s new tag team attack with Anne. Unlike the others, Yusuke’s tag team attack was performed with simplicity and style.
According to a Reddit post, Yusuke’s voiceline was saying: “Once again, I have cut a worthless object”. This line was in reference to a famous line by a character named Goemon Ishikawa XIII in the 80’s Japanese animation classic, Lupin the Third, though there are slight variations in the dialogue. This is familiar to us because the official Persona 5 Royal trailer, particularly Makoto Niijima’s multiple punch cutscene, also referenced the 80’s anime “Fist of the North Star.”
The tag team attack cutscene did not indicate where the battle is taking place, but we identified the enemy persona as a Mithras. This persona came from the Okumura Palace and it seemed highly indicative that Persona 5 Royal will be shuffling personas to different palaces.
It looked like Ann has a passive role in the tag team attack. She may have provided the aesthetic and inspiration for Yusuke during the tag team animation.
The amount of damage seen in these attacks is starting to leave us speechless. In normal or boss battles, getting this amount of damage would require a combination of a multiple support skills like Heat Riser and Charge or Concentration complemented by Baton Pass power-up.
Sayuri Showcased in Public
Yusuke’s character trailer ended with a scene featuring Sayuri. The Sayuri is an important painting for Yusuke and it played a huge role during the Madarame storyline.
We saw that Yusuke decided to display the original Sayuri painting at a museum exhibit. However, we noticed that the date was also January, similar to other characters’ hopes and dreams subplots coming true.
