Today, via live stream, Atlus released a new trailer for the upcoming Persona 5 Royal. This trailer focused solely on Kasumi Yoshizawa, the newest member of the Phantom Thieves. The trailer showed a few interactions between her and the main character, including her presence on the school trip to Hawaii and her showing off her skills at the batting cages. More important to the story, the scene where she awakens her Persona was shown and, consequently, the design of her Persona was revealed.
While the name was not shown in print, Kasumi calls out the Persona’s name of “sendorian.” Taking Japanese pronunciation into account, this seems to be “Cendrillon,” a classic, French take on the Cinderella story. This is supported by Persona 5’s favoring of European heroes, especially literary heroes, and particular French theming. This is despite Cinderella not fitting into the anti-hero aesthetic of the Phantom Thieves’ other Persona. Perhaps this ties in with the narrative of her not approving of the Phantom Thieves’ methods?
The trailer ended by restating the game’s October 31st Japan release date as well as the game’s two editions. A base edition that will launch for 8,800 yen and a special edition that will release for 13,800 yen. The special edition includes the base game along with the following:
- Special Box with art from Shigenori Soejima
- Persona 5 Royal 48 page, hardcover art book
- Persona 5 Royal Soundtrack
- Japanese L size T-shirt with art designed by P-studio
- Persona 5 Dancing Star Night and Velvet Room costume and background music DLC
Persona 5 Royal still does not have a specific western release date, but is said to release some time 2020.
