Persona 5 Royal Introduced “Take Over” as the New Ambush Battle Theme

Atlus Japan responded to a fan question sent to Morgana’s “Ask Me Anything” mailbox which asked for a preview of the new battle theme for Persona 5 Royal. Atlus replied in the form of a short battle clip on their official Twitter page to reveal the new theme song. The title of the song played in the background is a new song called “Take Over.” The song is also sung by its lead soundtrack singer, Lyn.

The new battle theme “Take Over” will only be played during a successful ambush against random Shadows in Palaces and possibly in Mementos. In addition, “Last Surprise” will still be played as a normal encounter battle theme in P5R.

Baton Pass Visual Improvements

Apart from the introduction of the new battle theme song, Atlus Japan also indirectly revealed a visual improvement to the Phantom Thieves’ Baton Pass battle mechanic.

After receiving a Baton Pass command from Joker, we can see Ryuji’s back suddenly burst with a red flame. Then, he gained a ring of red flame around him to signify his Baton Pass power up.

The clip continued with Ryuji landing a critical hit and using a Baton Pass to Morgana. Surprisingly, instead of a red color-themed command option, we were shown a yellow one.

Moreover, Mona gained a ring of yellow flame when powered up.

We are not certain if the color change signifies the number of times a Baton Pass was successfully performed. Since the maximum number of times you can Baton Pass is three, the color change might also be limited to three as well. Perhaps the last is blue.

Another assumption we have is that the color might represent each Phantom Thief’s elemental affinity. With Joker’s persona, Arsene, having Curse attacks and thereby a red color while Skull’s Captain Kidd having Electric attacks represented with yellow. For example, if Mona performed a Baton Pass next, the recipient might have a ring of green flame around then since Mona’s Zorro has wind attacks.
