Asura Ou

Asura, or Asura Ou, are entities that take on different roles. Their role depends on the religion in which they are observed. Asura Ou appear more often in Asian Religions.

In the old Vedic religion, the Asura are known as gods of moral and social phenomenon. They frequently competed with the Devas. However in Hinduism, they are fanatical, demon-like entities associated with primitive desires. These include carnal and materialistic pleasures. They sought out violence, unlike the Deva. In contrast to those from the Vedic texts, the Asura were rulers. The Persona series uses the design of Virocana for the Asura. He is the king of the Asura who worked with Indra.

In Buddhism, they are the lowest rank of deities. The Asura appear as deities but have addictions to different vices. People commonly associate them with unhappy births. They represent a human being who is incapable of peace and is always angry at the world. They sought for strife and violence, thriving on it. Japanese Buddhists view them differently. Many revere them as demi-gods or semi-blessed beings. While they are powerful protectors of Buddhism, they can be petty. Japanese Buddhism has the Path of the Four Devas. These main four Devas are Bishamonten, Komoukuten, Zouchouten, Jikokuten.
