Barong

Barong is a mythical creature of Indonesian origin. He represents the goodness of humanity and fights on the island of Bali. His job is to protect the people from the dark magic of Rangda. As a guardian spirit, he is commonly seen as a lion. However, some people also portray him as a dragon, a boar, or a tiger.

The brother spirit Banas Pati Rajah animated Barong to battle Rangda. He does this in order to restore the balance between good and evil. After Rangda is killed, she is eventually resurrected. As such, Barong is caught in an endless cycle of battling Rangda. In Bali, people will perform rituals that present Barong and Rangda in battle. In recent times, these rituals have become an attraction for tourists.
