Grimehkala

Grimehkala is a Sri Lankan demon that served as the Demon Lord Mara’s mount. When Buddha began to achieve enlightenment, Mara came riding on Grimehkala to tempt him. Grimehkala’s most prominent feature is its one huge eye. However, the eye has a powerful curse. Anyone that looks into the eye will fall ill and not be able to be cured.

Some believe that Grimehkala is a demon version of Ganesha. Others believe that it is a demon based on Airavata’s design. Sri Lankan Buddhists and Indian Hindus have come into conflicts because of this debate.
