Take-Minakata

The son of Okuninushi. By the time the Heavenly Gods were determined to exercise their authority over the Earth, the demons summoned Take-Mikazuchi to fight against Take-Minakata. Take-Mikazuchi won handily in his sumo battle with him. Due to his defeat, Take-Minakata had his arms amputated and retreated to Suwa. He met the goddess Yasakatome, whom he married. Now a guardian god, legends spread of the “Passage of God,” a phenomenon wherein glacial Lake Suwa crumbles during the winter season. Take-Minakata departs to the other bank and passes through the icy lake to join with the goddess.
