Third Tier Personas Revealed by P5R’s Ryuji Character Trailer
Atlus Japan posted another character trailer featuring the game’s energetic party member, Ryuji Sakamato. The trailer showed new things about Skull such as his third evolution persona, new character interactions, and new tag team attacks.
Third Tier Personas Confirmed
Similar to those of the Investigation Team of Persona 4 Golden (P4G), third evolution personas will be now accessible to the Phantom Thieves of Hearts. We can see in the trailer that Ryuji’s initial persona, Captain Kidd, and his awakened persona, Seiten Taisei, went into the process of a persona fusion. While P4G refers to this phenomenon as rebirth or transfiguration, P5R might have different terminology for this type of persona fusion. Furthermore, the event used for revealing Ryuji’s third evolution persona is the same as when he awakened his initial persona after the Chariot Confidant reached level 10. Both Persona 4 Golden’s and Persona 5 Royal’s third evolution persona event occurred in the month of January.
According to the trailer, Ryuji’s third tier persona is called “William,” which is Captain Kidd’s real name, William Kidd. Also, we can observe that the William persona is a modernized model of the Captain Kidd persona with a suit-themed hoodie jacket, glasses, and headphones. Instead of a ship, the persona stands on a sailboat.
New Character Interactions
Since Persona 5 Royal extends the story to March, we can see more unique interactions between Ryuji and the Protagonist at different places like Destinyland.
Later in the trailer, we saw Ryuji interacting with his former teammates on the track team.
New Tag Team Attack
For the second time, we can see another stylish tag team attack for Ryuji, this time with Yusuke Kitagawa. Unlike Ryuji’s cut-short tag team attack with Makoto Niijima, we saw Ryuji’s attack with Yusuke in full. This featured his favorite Beef Bowl and Cafe LeBlanc.
After getting interrupted by an opposing shadow, both Fox and Skull went to the offensive and struck down the enemy. Fox used his rifle while Skull used a pistol followed by throwing a golden grenade.
Surprisingly, the damage observed by having two Phantom Thieves was as high as third or fourth tier elemental skills. We are curious how much damage these attacks will do as players have more time to level up their party.
Persona 5 Royal will be available this year in Japan on October 31st. While the Western and Asian release was announced for 2020.
