Hua Po

Based on the Zi-bu-yu inscription which originated from the Qing dynasty. Hua Po is a tree-dwelling spirit produced from three or more dead humans who hanged themselves on the same tree. Their appearance is that of an attractive young girl, clothed in white. They stand shorter than average human beings. Hua Po do not have the gift of speech, but instead, make chirp-like sounds similar to a songbird’s.

They depend heavily on water to sustain themselves. A lack of hydration will cause them to shrivel and wilt. However, it is said that providing nourishment to a Hua Po that has decayed will revive her.
