Vasuki, The Hanged Man
Recounted in the tale of the churning of the milk ocean. Vasuki’s approval granted Devas and Asuras permission to churn the nectar of immortality, Amrita. The sly Indra tempted the asuras to fasten their clasp on Vasuki’s heads to inhale his hot breath. Although, with the milk ocean churned, poison came out. In order to prevent a premature destruction, Shiva engulfed the venom. As a result, he now bears the title Nilakantha.
